Default Traction Control button - DIY possible?

In my 93 SC3 the traction control button (toggle switch left of the shifter, says "Power" and "Normal" on it) does not light up when the lights are on. I just noticed this recently, which makes me think it used to and stopped. So 2 questions:
1) Is it supposed to light up at all, and if so...
2) Is there a DIY fix for this?
OLT, I suspect this is right up your alley... can you or anyone else help?

You can buy the bulb from Toyota, but they arent cheap. The Grain of wheat bulb is much too big, and once you buy that you still have to thread it into the plastic base (toyota bulb comes with that)

Part number (for Australia at least - not sure if the US/Lexus part is different) is: 84999-10490
Cost was AUD$6.40 (about US$5?). There are 2 for the ECT switch that you are talking about (the one you mention is NOT the TRC switch - TRC is a pushbutton switch that sits above the shifter in one of the 3 blanks there)

Interestingly, i also ordered a replacement bulb for my Hazard light switch - the part number for that is 84999-10420
That was only AUD$4.60

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

Dom, I don't have the TRC push-button you are talking about. Or if I do, then I'm confused as to what you are talking about b/c the aren't and buttons/switches in front of my shifter. Thanks!

The Grain of wheat bulb is much too big,
2mm grain of wheat bulb.
2mm is 2mm period. there are 6 sizes of grain of wheat bulbs, but i specifically said 2mm.

Is this a Toyota/Lexus specific bulb, or can I just run to Pepboys or something?

My bad, missed the part about the 2mm. None of the auto stores, or even electronics stores had anything close to the size needed for the ECT switch - i simply asked for the smallest bulb they had.

They said "you want the grain of wheat bulb" which i took as meaning there was one standard grain of wheat bulb! This is australia though, so maybe an autoparts store over there has more variety.

RSTSpeed, if you dont have a button called - TRC - then you most likely dont have traction control. The button on the side of the gearlever is used to switch the transmission between normal and sports mode. In sports mode the gear changes are later, and faster.

Closest pic i could find of the TRC button is this (never mind the other switches and or the keyboard & indash screen - just a little experiment i was doing on my JDM soarer )

Thanks man! I know what the Power/Norm Switch does, I jus assumed that that function served the same purpose as traction control. Your TRC control button appears to be about where the shift-lock override hole is on my console.

On early (92-96?) cars equipped with TRAC the on/off button is on the right top of the console just in front of the ash tray. In line with it on the left side are two rocker switches that control the seat heaters. Actually the rocker switch for the right seat heater is just about an inch in front of the shift-lock override hole. On later SCs the TRAC switch is under the dash near the steering column.

The switch y'all have been talkin about is the driving pattern selector switch.

Interesting side note! The Seat heater buttons on the Toyota Soarer are on the doors - a momentary pushbutton switch in front of the memory seat buttons (drivers side), and a single button in the same position on the passenger side.

The rocker switches next to the TRC are for Suspension High/Norm and Suspension Sport/Norm
