Nah, it wont fit on the 92-97 dildomatic shifter! And I know someone that looked into changing the whole shiftgate (to get the gated shifter) and he said he would have had to change the TRANNY to complete that project

i don't think it will. + you have to do something about the O/D button on the older sc's

When I was SC shopping, I used to hang out in here alot, and I saw a few SC owners refer to the shifter as that, and it just stuck!! LOL

thanks for the replies guys. i know its possible to change the whole shiftgate without changin the tranny i have seen it done before this guy had it done on an sc he had for sale on ebay and i asked if he had to change the tranny to do that and he said no just the gauge cluster and a couple of other things. i wish i remebered what else was needed to be done now but all that info is on my cpu that crashed

if i remember that correctly, there was quite a bit of discussion about that particular sc in here...was it a white sc400 that allegedly had the cluster, wheels, shifter, and 97+ body kit & spoiler put on? if so, there were quite a few people (including myself) that were suspicious of the car having its vin number replaced...especially since it looked identical to a 1998 and they had no engine bay pics, possibly to avoid showing it had the VVT-i engine and thus giving away the vin number change...

anyway, thats the only sc ive ever even heard of having done this conversion, and there was only one other person (and he posted it in this forum) that looked up what would be needed, and he was told a tranny change would be needed.

You are still SC shopping. Stop lying to yourself, deep down inside you know you must own one.

Lightbulb AN IDea!

HI, I'm on ocassionaly in the GS forums & the Classifieds.. but I'm trying to unload my GS lease right now (See my Classified ad in the GS section ) Anyway..if I can unload it I want to p/u a pre-98 SC ..and I'm VERY interested in this mod.. especially after I saw the white one on EBAy Too.. I also figured a VIN swap.. but you never know..?

So here's my idea: Why don't 2 people from CL= PRE-98 Owner & 98+ Owner (this could have been lexluthor..but I believe he sold his older SC.) meet up and start taking apart their consoles piece by piece and attempt a swap??Just a test run (my GS is only like 3-4 pieces before you get to the shift gate assembly) ..To me this sounds like the most sensible (FREE, EZ, FAST, SAFE) to figure out if any of us have a hope of ever preforming this conversion...
Let me know if any of you SC owners think this is a reasonable idea..

IMO the e-bay car was bull (he claimed he had updated the gauge cluster as well), I don't think this is a reasonable conversion. It's not just the console, the transmission is different as well and has a shift linkage that is designed to work with the gated console (i've been in there and seen it, it's definitely different), it might be feasible, but you'd have to get inside the trans and start changing around that gear selection cog...which would be basically experimental. Doesn't seem easily doable, if you're a glutton for punishment then go for it, otherwise get yourself a '98-00, plus then you can play around with other shifters, i'm using a unit from an '03 SC430 which is all wood but needs to be modified a bit to fit properly.

Has anyone ever figured out how to put a 98 shift gate into a 97 yet?
