I'm guessing you have the SC400? If I get the SC4 I can be like you and FuryNSX Does't he also have a 92 SC400?

I think I would go the SC300 route if this were going to be my primery project car, but my other car is my fun show car and I can't afford to have two play cars at this time Since I'm in no hurry, maybe I'll have a little financial luck this year and I will be able to have two play cars Seriously, I know how the mod bug is and I spent too much money this past Christmas on parts for my other car. I'm hoping that when I find an SC I'll be able to control myself better and keep the car as I intend it to be
good luck

once you see an SC with mods on it already you'd be hard pressed to hold yourself back

my opinion is that the SC300 in 5-speed form is as fast or faster than 92-97 SC400s... at least mine was... course after working with my car i find my ignition was advanced over stock

What? No spoilers on SC300? That's strange, what do you call the stock spoiler on my SC300. With SC400 you would have all the anoying steering pump fluid leaking on the alternator problem. Someone mentioned FI for the SC400. That's false because it's not in US yet.

I almost got an SC400 but I found a nice less expencive SC300 and I never looked back.

I'm with Bean, the performance on my 95 5MT should be on par with most 400's. For some reason my car seems extremely strong, especially from 80mph and up. Me and another member should find out for sure this spring, right SC400-V8?

In order to get the stock 300 to be anywhere as fast as the stock 400, you will have to continually run the engine at higher RPM's. Although this can be fun from time to time, it can wear on your nerves as well as your passenger's nerves if you are constantly red lining your shifts, and pushing the engine to its limits. Doesn't exactly make for the luxurious ride that the smooth 400 can provide with its effortless acceleration.

As an astute CL reader I have noticed the 300 vs. 400 debates. Hence, I would like to be as objective as possible:

Chicks dig the SC400. When asked by a female coworker whether I had the big SC(engine I presume), I replied yes – she then remarked that she liked big things.

you dont think an SC400 will have to redline itself to keep up with a stock SC300 5-speed? you're kidding yourself...

the 300 is just as smooth an engine; in fact the I6 design is inherently smoother... both cars ride very smooth; of course the 5-speed is going to shift rougher; but a lot of people like that... and if it makes me faster than a SC400 then so be it

as far as effortless acceleration... my car does that just fine now some of that effortless stuff tho makes the tires spin in 2nd and 3rd gear

no.

The "grunt" of the sc400 is a huge difference, and it does not have to be "driven" to accelerate. it does it by itself. it takes a driver to make the 300 perform, it takes someone with a single foot and at least one hand to make the sc4 dissapear into traffic ahead.

As we all know, the sc400 auto is about the best auto tranny "Stock" you can get your hands on for shift times and smoothness "stock".

Best transmission? You gotta be kidding. You have 22% (vs 15% manual) drive line loss with that transmission. It shifts smoothly (not at redline), since it's not a sport transmission. I might aswell mention SC400 is hevier than SC300.

How many of you older SC400 guys can run 15.2 in 1/4 mile? Just use the search button and you'll find lots of disapointments. No offence, just stating the facts.

That darn turbo, it muffles the exchaust so it doesn't sound better than SC400. I think I will remove it and loose 300 to 800 rwhp to improve the way exchaust sounds.

Chicks don't just dig the SC400. Most don't know the difference.

Hey guys. I didn't mean for this posts to become a SC3 is better than SC4 post. I know there are good reasons to go with either one. What I was looking for is for personal experience and opnions as to why each owner choose his/her car. I have my own criteria and I was hoping to read each of your reasons and match them up with mine. I figure I would then go with the car that has more common reasons that I would choose. Right now I'm leaning SC4 because I wont be doing too much engine mods, I need the automatic because the wife needs to be able to drive it, and the price difference between the two seem fairly close. I like manual transmissions but the wife can't drive a stick. That is part of the reason why I need this car because my other car is a manual. I'm 99% sure I'll be getting an SC, however, I'm in no hurry so I'm just getting all the information I can.

Yes guys, both cars have their strong points and weaknesses. They are siblings, why do we have to bash them? And as for my remarks on FI, Chris and I come from a community where we HAD to source our aftermarket ourselves, as there was NO support. So, for there to be even a semblance of a S/C for the SC, he and I are the types that would make it work if that is what we were after. I know of one member targeting June of this year to be ready with the US Spec kit, so we shall see.

I know hands down the SC300 is the easier moddable, bang for buck...however, the SC400 may not be a 12-14 second car, but it gets me where I need to go quick enough. I will be working on it....just been very busy. Time to come back to the table

Bean, much props on your ride. I sometimes wish I had gotten a 300/5sp...I love that story about how you were pulling and still spinning in 2nd/3rd gear.

That is inspiration....the 400 will see it one day.

Both cars rock. My buddy has a manual 300 and the decision was difficult.

I have a strong appreciation for any Lexus. As a first time buyer, I resorted to stopping by the Ford dealership to look at Mustangs. That was a day of defeat for me. I miserably asked the dealer about pricing then dropped to my knees when he quoted me 30g for a GT. Melancholy and forlornness doesn’t even get close to my state. Then, as a sucker punch, he had the gall to REALLY sell the Ford Focus to me. That was it…I stumbled out…resolved to redouble my efforts; and the SC was the triumphant result.
