Doing a lot of refresh on my 97 SC400 after a partial repaint (pictures to come later), and I came across this Module and connected battery. It was located in the frame just under the left front of the rear seat. I have the seats out for reupholstery and noticed the module and battery floating loose under there. Pulled them out and the double-sided tape had dried out. Before I just retape them and put them back I'd like know what they're for.
I searched my factory SC manuals and wiring diagrams but didn't find them. Could possibly be aftermarket from the PO. Any insights would be helpful.

That is a vehicle locater device, like LoJack. It is dead weight, remove it. One of the previous owners had it installed, you don't have a contract for the service, so it is of no use to you.
I found dozens of those while performing air bag recalls. Some cars had 2 LoJack systems installed; when the cars were sold as used, the sales department sold another tracking package to the next buyer.
Thanks Nevada, once I traced the wiring I found the mediocre splicing they did into the harness that goes under the seat; clearly aftermarket. IT's definitely headed for the trash.
