Default Transmission Install Issue

Hey guys it’s my first time posting on the forum and my first time doing a clutch job. For whatever reason I can’t get my W58 trans back on after I installed the pilot bearing, clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. I used the installation tool for the clutch, but the throw out bearing looks different from the one I found in the trans. It’s a Koyo branded one but rather flat where it meets the pressure plate it’s like extended up. They are both the same size in height but I’m not sure if that’s the problem. Any tips help!!!

maybe your engine is tipped forward. use a piece of wood or something else between the engine and the sway bar to bring the engine back in the normal position, a little bit down backwards to lineup correct the transmission. that could be your problem.

That could be it, it’s currently on an engine hoist so maybe it’s tilted because of it. Thanks for the tip

Usually it takes a bit of wiggling, if the engine is tilted that can be okay, but just realize the transmission will also need to be tilted too to align the input shaft. I'm not 100% if any W58 install is different than what I've experienced with the R154.

If it won’t go in it is almost always the disc is not lined up. You say you used the alignment tool? You made sure it was engaged in the pilot bearing? And you held it centered before you tightened up the pressure plate bolts? It should easily slide in and out if so. I have done this job many times so have had the tool not fully engaged and it does this. Make sure.
