Default Engine Replacement Question

Im putting a 94 ls400 1uz in my 93sc400 and i've heard differing opinions on whether the wiring harness may need modification or that i may need an ecu from the ls400. Does anybody know if this is true and if so what needs to be modified. Is there any other differences between the engines i should know about? I've heard the exhaust and oil pan are different. Is that true? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

There is a number of differences between SC and LS.

If you got the engine off of First Generation LS, the Exhaust Manifolds appear to be quite different, below are the Parts Catalogues for both.

1994 LS400
1993 SC400

The Oil Pan is Shifter further Back on the SC, it's right on the Front of the Engine with LS.

The Harness is also incompatible with the SC ECU, the Pigtails are completely different.

Easiest option would be to reuse everything off of your current SC, that is if you still have your Old Engine.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

This is perfect! Is there a gasket for that "upper oil pan"? I cant find anything but id assume you would want a gasket there. What gasket maker would you recommend? Also do you need to remove the oil pan to unbolt the "upper oil pan"?

Yeah, I guess, you will have to make your own one however..
It uses Toyota FIPG Gasket Maker, Part Number for it is 00295-00103, it is a little pricey for a Sealer, but it is worth every penny.

Yes you do, there is a Pick-Up Tube in the way, it will make removing the Upper Pan without first taking the Lower Pan off a sight to behold.. They do make the Gaskets for the Lower Pan though, so at least there you won't have to mess with the Sealant.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
