Hello all. Just wondering if there has ever been an aftermarket fix for the discontinued relay 81980-24020. I have read the thread that was created a few years ago, but there has been no new information listed. If I can not get a new factory relay that will work, I do have the components to make the patch harness that Lexus2000 designed. My issue is I need the pin out correspondence numbers on the 8-pin model 81980-02030 to know how to match up to my 5-pin base.
Glad you showed up. I have the pin numbers of the 24020 relay. I need the corresponding pin numbers from the 02030 relay....ie pin number 1 to pin number 3 and so on. From your old pictures I could never get things to match up on my end. Feel free to email if you can or would like to help me out .....kendall.jsmith1@gmail.com
Thanks man.

I guess it is, thanks. I am no electrician for sure. I will see what I can come up with. I hate to sound like an idiot. Will I be connecting multiple wires together to get it pared down to 5 pins or are there ones coming out of the 8-pin that I will not need? I appreciate it.

I do have a pigtail and a donor 5 pin relay that I have ready to solder. My problem is that the pigtail I have has different wire colors than you have in your example. It is impossible for me to match them up. That is why I was wondering if you still had the info.....ie pin1 from connector to pin 3 for example. If you have that or could get it for me, I would be more than willing to Venmo what I can.
kjs8345-- I am just now seeing this. I do indeed still have the prototype harness and relay that LeX2K made and can get them out and help with them however I can. I'll be able to later this afternoon.
LeX2K, at this point I think I should also copy what you did with another set of parts since there is only one original that you made as you probably need it back. I haven't meant to not try it out all this time and reading this thread and I did not realize that the way to reproduce your design was not yet fully documented here-- my apologies! It's been difficult to get time in to work on my SC consistently for a while now between all that was happening personally with my family.
I'll get the prototype relay and harness out with all that you sent with them. I'll take detailed photos and post them here, open them up, etc. Please tell me any way that I can help can assist. Your solution was always intended to be the long term fix if the OEM SC300/400 1992-1994 signal-flasher-relay-containing-two-internal-relays couldn't be repaired.
Thanks guys. This is a great forum. My son and I are working on this car that he just got. It was originally his grandmother’s car and has 67,000 original miles. It is in fantastic shape other than a few gremlins like this.
My predicament is I can’t match up the pin wires from the pictures in the older thread due to different color wiring. If I could get the pin to pin correspondence (ie pin # 1 from connector to pin # 3 on relay) then I should be set.
Here are the pin numbers that I am using for reference. Thanks.
Apologies for the delay. The Ford truck 5-pole relay that LeX2K used was difficult to get open with the small tools I had out so I pulled out my multimeter and tested each pin for continuity between both ends.
As you posted most above, if you consult each pinout in the following diagrams...
Ford 5-pole automotive relay plug side (I turned the image orientation sideways so as to better line up with Toyota's own matching diagram of pin arrangement):
Lexus SC300/400 & Toyota Soarer footwell kick panel receptacle (carefully note the specific orientation of the pins that Toyota has made):
90980-10799 Connector for the Toyota Camry Gen5 flasher/signal relay (plug side that faces the Gen5 relay):
....from consulting those and testing with my multimeter's continuity setting I came up with following table following each pin of LeX2K's prototype adapter harness:
Connector 90980-10799 Pinout to prototype 5-pin relay style connector (for 1992-1994 Lexus SC300/400 & 1991-1994 Toyota Soarer to use a Toyota Camry Generation 5 signal flasher 81988-50030 relay modified for LED bulbs):
Pin 1 — “Pin 2” in the SC fuse panel receptacle aka “Pole 86” on the 5-pin style relay male spade
Pin 2 — “Pin 4” in the SC fuse panel receptacle aka “Pole 87A” on the 5-pin style relay male spade
Pin 3 — “Pin 5” in the SC fuse panel receptacle aka “Pole 87” on the 5-pin style relay male spade
Pin 4 — “Pin 2” in the SC fuse panel receptacle aka “Pole 86” on the 5-pin style relay male spade
Pin 5 — “Pin 1” in the SC fuse panel receptacle aka “Pole 85” on the 5-pin style relay male spade
Pin 6 — “Pin 3” in the SC fuse panel receptacle aka “Pole 30” on the 5-pin style relay male spade
Pin 7 — External wire to chassis ground
Pin 8 — UNUSED / NO CONTINUITY
Toyota connector 90980-10799 uses OEM repair terminal P/N 82998-12340.
....
LeX2K if anything looks off in my findings please correct me!
Excellent. This is exactly what I was looking for. I will check back to see if Lex2K corrects anything before I complete the harness. Otherwise, I will let you guys know my outcome when I get it completed. Thanks guys.
LeX2K -- Thank you! I'm glad the pinout looks right to you
kjs8345 -- I double checked each connection before posting. Following that guide you will be able to replicate exactly what LeX2K did for this harness.
Though I still have no LED bulbs installed in place of the conventional bulbs I'd test it myself if not for my SC currently being dormant with a damaged back seat wiring harness which I've been in the process of repairing with all new OEM terminal wires. Some of the connections in it do go to at least one of the rear brake lights, so that has to be fixed first.
