1995 SC400 Lost Key Need HELP
I have a 1995 SC400 and have lost the only key I had. The key didn't look like it had a chip inside (it was very thin plastic at the head, with no buttons). Bought the car 10 years ago with only one key and it started the car and fit the doors, trunk, and glove compartment. I have contacted the nearest Lexus dealership and they said they can only go back ten years to make keys. Several locksmiths said they couldn't do it either. Does anyone know the code for getting a key made? Don't need a remote or anything since I haven't had one at all while owning the car. I haven't been able to use the car in over 2 weeks and we need the second car constantly. Please help if you have any info.
P.S. Yesterday I replied to another thread where the moderator had given someone a code for their SC300, but my post has not shown up so I started this thread. I hope that's not a forum violation or anything. I'm just a little desperate right now. Thanks for understanding.

Hello,
Your car doesn't appear to have Immobilizer system, only the Wireless Door Locks, which is a good thing in your case. Here is a Valet key that fits your car, the only difference between Master and Valet key in your case is the lack of Wireless button, and the way it is cut, such that it only works in the Ignition Lock, but any locksmith will be able to cut it as a Master key as well, such that it will work in the Glove Box and Trunk as well, there are plenty of services out there that should be able to cut you a key from a VIN code.
P.S. Now that I think about it, that should be a regular(TOY48) TOY40 key, since it doesn't have an immobilizer, even a local Ace store should have an aftermarket blank for it, though I am not sure if they cut keys from VIN code.
[EDIT]: Turns out there are two types of Lexus keys, TOY40 is an older blank used up to year 2001 for ES, and earlier for other models, TOY48 is a newer blank, used in basically any post 2000 Lexus, and it Toyotas with Keyless Entry. In this case, with a 1995 model, it is more than likely that a TOY40 blank was used, not TOY48.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Always, always get a spare key made if you buy a car with just one key... If it seems too expensive and/or troublesome, don't buy the car.
I'm surprised the dealer said they can only go back ten years. I would try calling a few others outside your area. I'm not sure whether non-dealers can cut the key by VIN, but you'll need to provide proof of ownership when going that route. You probably don't have a picture of your old key, but that's another way a new one can be cut. I went that route for one of my SCs, and it turned out good.

Thank you Arsenii for replying. I have ordered the key you mentioned. Now I just have to find a locksmith. I am in a town of under 20,000 people with only a couple of locksmiths and they said they can't do it. I have talked to several others out of town and they either said they couldn't do it or they don't service my area. So, I am searching. I will call an ACE store and see what they say also. If you have any other suggestions, I'm listening.
Thanks again

Thank you t2d2 for your reply. Yeah I should have had a spare made.
I will try some other dealers if I can't get this new key blank cut by a locksmith soon. And I wish I had a picture of the key, but no such luck.
Thanks again

I ordered the key from Lexuspartsnow.com this morning, and I just received notice that my order for the Lexus key blank has been canceled due to the key being discontinued. Any help would be appreciated. Not sure where to look for another. Gonna keep searching though.

Hey Bimmerbill, just got back home from a beach trip. Thanks for your offer. I am in Alexander City in Central Alabama. I don't have the key yet, but do you know where I can get one cut? Thanks
This say it fits. Cheaper too but may not actually be available from a Lexus dealer
