I picked up a stock Supra steering wheel this weekend (along with some TT brakes). I decided to go the OEM route instead of an aftermarket wheel because I wanted to keep the functionality of the horn, flasher return, cruise control and most importantly, the airbag. The supra wheel is about 1/4" smaller (not much), but is a lot thicker than the stock wheel. It is also black, which imo looks a lot better than the stock tan one. It took me no more than 15 minutes to complete the process. The first and most important thing to do is disconnect the battery. I didnt want the airbag popping out in my face while trying to disconnect the thing, not to mention I kept hitting the horn while trying to unbolt the wheel and it was getting pretty annoying. After unscrewing the torx screws, I just made sure the wheel was straight, disconnected the airbag and cruise control, unbolt the center nut, pop the thing off and pop the supra wheel directly on in reverse order.

After everything was bolted up, I reconnected the battery, turned the ignition on.... no airbag light! so I am assuming this airbag is compatible. The automatic tilt, horn, cruise control works and the flasher return all work just fine. Driving the car, feels a little more comfortable thanks to the thicker padding in the wheel. The car feels more responsive and the wheel adds a "sporty" feel to the car. The black just plain looks better than tan, plus the airbag is smaller than stock. Of course all these observartions are subjective and people may disagree with me. If you can find one lying around, Id definately recommend doing the swap.

Good work Tan. When are the TT brakes going on? I ask because I'm in need of some stock rear calipers and rotors.

how hard was it to install? did everything plug up fine, or did you have a few left over connections/not enough connections for some things?

 

I don't really think it makes a difference, except for the fact that it has the Toyota emblem on it...I wouldn't recommend this mod unless your original steering wheel was worn out or problematic...Sorry, just not my cup of tea....But I gotta give it up, its definitely original..

The big "L" in the middle of my steering wheel brings me much more comfort...

I was thinking about something like this since my steering wheel is a little worn out, but I would go with '98 Supra TT steering wheel. It's a 3 spoke and looks like more like the TRD one.

That tan steering wheel had to go! The Supra wheel looks sportier, 3-spoke wouldn't be bad either. Definately a in a 5spd.

 

It looks a bit out of place. Just like the Supra seats on a SC4.

It'll prob. look better if the car had (carbon fiber trim, black interior, and less gadgets in it).

But if performance is what you're after, then why not?

I think the Supra seats would be better. You could re-wrap them and they would look stockish.

But I think it'd be pretty hard for someone to match them perfectly well against the SC4's plush interior.

Mr. Tan did say that the Supra wheel was smaller than the stock Lexus. I am sure he's gonna appreciate the smaller wheel when he has some back to back turns at high speeds.
