Default Lexus RZ450e Suggested Improvements - Software/App/Hardware

Software:
  • Allow permanent range mode w/HVAC on. When I tried it, it worked fine for me, but of course it turns it off on the next drive, going back to Normal and not even Eco mode, where I've had it.
  • Increase the maximum range mode speed to 70mph.
  • Allow more zooming out on the digital rear-view mirror. Right now, even at minimum zoom a car that's not even in the top down view looks like it's ON our bumper.
  • Save the regen setting (defaults to 2, but I'd rather have more). Maybe this is possible, but I haven't found a way.
  • Detail on charging sessions! kW, Volts, Amps, time, etc. A little screen appears on the driver display when the car is off when you open the door but it goes away too quickly. And, I don't know what the traction battery in the center display is supposed to be showing. It's just a blue bubble.
  • Make it easier to change the charging settings. I change these frequently, especially the maximum battery percentage. At present, it's buried under a few menus.
  • Allow changing the max charging % WHILE charging and from the APP. I sometimes need to do this if we are shopping and I can't run back to the car in time before it hits 80% charge.
  • Why does the app need authentication? 12 hours is the most I can set so I don't have to do it every time but my phone has authentication. I've not seen another car app that had this extra step after initial sign-on.
Hardware:
  • Add a glove box. I doubt we will use the radiant leg heater here in SoCal any time soon.
  • Add retractable roof shade(s)
  • Add a drive mode button - I thought there was a way to do this on the HUD per a vid I saw, but I haven't figured it out yet.
  • Make the driver instrument cluster screen a full width screen vs the 7" screen it has now with fixed indicators only on the sides.
  • Improve the resolution and brightness of the driver screen.
  • Add a frunk
  • Move the charge port to the front right (or back left) - for Tesla charging once supported
  • Increase the maximum AC charging current to 40A, or more. I've measured it at 32A which is slightly better than 30A, but this is too slow these days.
  • Add a ground prong to the AC 110V outlet in the back seat. Also, have it support more than 100W.
  • Enable bi-directional V to "X" charging.
  • Add rear-window pull up shades.

Note: I moved this to a new thread and added some more items. More suggestions are welcome!

Higher capacity battery and 300 miles+ range with HVAC system running.
Tesla DC charging port rather than J1772.
Leather option for interior.
Retractable shades for panoramic roof on all model trims.
A spare tire option.
Larger, better display in front of driver,
Push buttons for HVAC controls.
Standardize to use a single coolant type.
Higher quality for charging port access door.
Swap charging port to right front to facilitate using Tesla fast charging stations.
Change all dealer only programming options to owner use.
If frunk is added, lose the hood prop-open rod for struts.
Same size for front and rear tires and wheels allowing rotations.
Retractable cover for luggage area.
Better regenerative braking to allow one pedal driving.
Regen braking defaults to last setting used at startup.
Supply second key fob at every delivery and lose the excuses and promises.

After 2-months of ownership I agree with what the others have suggested … but the top enhancements I’d like to see are …

1. Increased range … 300+ would be ideal, but at least 275 as a minimum.

2. The screen in front of the driver is way too small, making most of the text hard to read by us “older” drivers, and the illumination needs to be amped-up too. Let’s get something akin to the driver screen that’s in the newer Lexus/Toyota hybrid models.

3. The non-Luxury models really need a sun screen for the pano-roof.

4. Stop the constant nagging beeping … especially in reverse. I know the dealer can adjust this, but owners should be able to do it too. I actually find the reverse beeping more of a distraction … try backing out of a parking spot in a crowded parking lot with pedestrians and cars approaching from all angles, and the beeping from all sides is maddening!

5. Let’s get more battery health-/charging info …and all located on one tab-screen. I hate to use the “T” word here … but they provide lots of useful info.

6. And just a small personal preference … I miss the classy analog Lexus Clock … it’s just a nice touch that some of us really enjoy looking at when driving our Lexus.
