Hi, My RX 350 suddenly threw a TPMS warning on the cluster this weekend. It’s been a few days since switching from my winter tires, mounted in separate rims (with sensors too), over to my summer tires on OEM rims.
I checked all pressures and they were good. When I tried to reset the TPMS system from the vehicle setting it was displaying a TPMS Malfunction error, contact the dealer. Any idea what might be causing that?
This is a 2023 RX 350 with just under 30,000 kms. Prior to switching over the tires, there was no issue with the TPMS system.
Lexus really needs to go back to an indirect TPM system. You lose individual pressure numbers but gain so much more dependability while saving $500 to replace all the sensors after 10-12 years.
Update on this thread .. Thanks for the input/replies received. There was no issue with the TPMS sensors (which are OEM and only 2.5 yrs old) and the issue has been resolved.
The "re-programming" step was missed when changing over to the summer wheels. The vehicle needed to be re-programmed/re-pointed to pickup the other sensors. So, while the vehicle is capable of storing multiple sets of sensors, it would appear the vehicle needs to be pointed to the active set. Otherwise, the TPMS system must throw a general malfunction error.
No scan tool was required, it was changed via the info system, I believe it was Settings > Custom > Tires (I believe).
Selected the 1 set of registered sensors, took the car for a drive and within 2 kms, the TPMS light went out and pressure readings were available for all 4 tires.
Not a synch issue but just FYI..........our TPMS readings have yet to reflect what two different tire pressure gauges have shown since purchasing our '26 RX a couple months ago. TPMS reads about 3 psi higher than the two different pressure gauges. The gauge from the Lexus dealer reads 35 psi as does mine at home whereas the vehicle display shows 38. These were all taken at cold temps when the car had been on only short drives and then sat overnight. The TPMS also showed varying levels of psi at times within the 4 tires.......two at 38 and two at 37.
Not a big deal for me as I usually check with my digital gauge only and it's been spot on for years.

There is no substitute for a good accurate pressure gauge. TPMS is not precise. Gauges are not all precise either. I can get 3 different type gauges to read different PSI. It is a safety device to warn for rapid air deflation or when there is a slow leak the light will come on to warn a driver. It is not a device for precision PSI like if you were at a track racing your car.
If you want to "reset" then lower the PSI by 10 and then go drive around the block. Then inflate back up to door placard PSI exactly and then go drive again.
