Intriguing. I wonder what they did with the HV component at forward-left. I mean, besides detaching the wires...

They were replacing the mark Levinson sub with a full size sub, but I was trying to point out the sub assembly if any one had thoughts of removing the sub to fit a modern spare tire. The bolts in the sub floor are different with no way to mount the tire.

Question for those with the ModernSpare. I was thinking about picking one up with the carrying bag for long road trips. Would it fit on the floorboard behind one of the front seats?

FYI - My RX450h+ is being built and should be here in 45-60 days so I can't measure the area behind the seat myself.

Thanks!

Lying flat, not a chance. It's nearly as big as the stock tire. Standing upright, yes. Here it is behind my driver's seat (in a garbage bag, for some reason -- I can't recall why I took it it out of its carrying case).

Thank you so much for taking the time to snap that pic! Much appreciated.

So the question for me is should I do that or put it in the back and put some luggage on the back seat?

Thanks again.

My own long road trip situation usually involves two kids in the back seats, so I've stowed it in the back, standing it up behind the rear passenger seats, and piled luggage in to hold it in place. It worked fine, but the fact that it's SO CLOSE to being able to fit under the rear floor bugs me deeply. I'm determined to (eventually) follow through on what Lexus started but crazily didn't finish.

...partly also because my dogs do NOT like it taking up half their laying-down space in the back...

If I was going to do a lot of road trips over the years, I think I’d install a two inch receiver hitch with a spare tire mount.

IF i owned a car without a spare tire.......
(currently have a TX350)

I'd carry a tire plug kit, 12v air compressor and a couple "sidewall slug's"

^^^ would handle anything you need.

Definitely. My challenge is, my long road trips typically involve a rooftop cargo box and a 4-unit bike rack as well as my paranoid need for a spare... so unless I chained the spare to the bikes (hey...), under the rear floor is my best option.

I just ordered all three parts that I will need -- the Right-Forward box (64995-48060), the Left-Rear box (64993-48201), and the Battery Cover (58491-48020) from Tom Wood Lexus ($5 cheaper than local by avoiding sales tax). Arguably I don't need to buy these parts, but I want to keep unaltered, stock backups on hand in case I really screw up when Dremeling-out the tire cavity and they become too hard to find down the road (pun intended).

The thickness of the Modern Spare while lying flat may still be ½" - ¾" too much, but if so, I can 3D-Print whatever spacers I need to elevate all the boxes evenly (if necessary to keep the entire floor level).

As for that high-voltage component at forward-left, I will measure the space between it and the bottom of the box above it and 3D-Print something that maintains that space even with the stock box removed and a spare tire in its place.
