Default Hard to shift from reverse to drive

I put the car in reverse to back out of the drive. Get to the end of the drive and it will not shift into drive unless I press like hell on the brake pedal. I've never in my life had a car that I have to stop completely to shift into drive. Am I the only one with this issue? Today I was making a "quick" three point turn and boy was that a fiasco. There has to be a fix for this as it's going to get me killed.

Dealer, sounds like the brake interlock switch needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Knowing that shifting into reverse while the car is still moving in opposite direction will damage the transmission, I've never attempted doing that with my cars.

I would not be surprised that Lexus programmed it to see the speed = 0 before allowing shifting to opposite direction.

I know that I can shift from neutral to drive while the car is moving forward without stopping since i accidentally touched the joystick and went to neutral while driving. I just shifted back to drive quickly.

Perhaps there is something 'funky' about how the OP's shifter is sensed, left-to-right.

The shift lever has to be pressed LEFT to shift or change selections doesn't it?

+++++++++++++

Our European car requires a trigger squeeze instead of L<->R movement. Occasionally I'll do the wrong thing in either car, LOL,

I've experienced this countless times... and it has nothing to do with "shifting on the move." Pressing harder on the brake pedal is always the answer, and I know because the midi always tells me to press the brake... which I'm already doing. And frankly, it's a not-so-great answer.

That would typically show signs shifting out of P.

I have had that complaint from a customer and did verify the operation. There is a brake pedal pressure sensor in the brake system, the driver must press the brake pedal with enough force that will ensure the vehicle will not move (while on a hill) before the computer will respond to gear shift lever inputs.

You can verify this: shift from drive-to-reverse, reverse-to-drive a few times, now ease up on the brake pedal just to the point where the vehicle won't roll away and try the shift lever. It will not respond.
