Does muting rear camera warnings take multiple attempts?
I have a bike rack and the backup warning program randomly decides it must not be a bike rack so it fires off the audible warning. The good news is that there is a mute feature. The bad news is it never works unless I hit it at least 3 times and sometimes more. Is this normal?
I think what you are experience is the proximity sensors detecting an object (the bike rack) from different sensors not realizing collectively they are detecting a bike rack.
Depending on the bike rack, you are more than likely get varying alert results without sensors disabled .
There is a procedure to disable the proximity sensors and the auto braking when using a bike rack. If you search there is a thread somewhere on here.
If you don’t disable the auto braking at some point when you’re in reverse, the car will abruptly brake.
I use a Kuat Sherpa rack and fortunately I only need to disable sensors/ auto brake when it is folded down and bikes are loaded. When folded up no need to disable anything. It depends on the design of the rack and how it may or may not interfere with sensors.

I know I can disable it but that causes a flashing icon on the screen that never goes away. I tend to agree with you multiple sensor idea. However the people who programmed this "feature" need to go somewhere else. As I mentioned - it's random. At least half the time I get out of the driveway without car slamming on brakes. It is scary to think that the government wants automatic braking for forward collisions and some of these same people may design it. Slamming on the brakes in reverse is not the same as slamming on them in traffic
repost:
Two related systems to choose to disable,
Intuitive Parking Assist are the dime sized sensors that trigger the warning(s).
Been standard or optional on many vehicles for years. Defeat if desired.
One mute should work, does your rig sway and retrigger the warnings?
Defeating this through the menu will also shut off the (innocent) front sensors.
Parking Support Brake is when the IPA detects an eminent collision and
applies the brakes. Pretty much must disable if you intend to back up with
a trailer or bike rack attached. Not an easy touch button, must enter the
Driver Information Center through the steering wheel buttons, the yellow
disclaimer icon will stay on solid until you reenable the PKSB.
