Today's car door seals are bulb seals and have a hollow air filled area inside. They are normally made from EPDM which is a "forgiving" compound and less likely to take a "set" from their original shape when they are compressed between the door and the jamb . The car door seals of yesteryear were solid and made of a sponge rubber compound which would harden over time, lose elasticity and take a set, due to being compressed when closed. The bulb seals should last much longer and do a better job of sealing but, the downside is that you have to put a bit more effort into closing the doors.

Thanks StefanoS, your post about the bulb door seals sure seems to explain this!

Question Door closing

Howdy, I have ordered - and placed on a 18 month wait list, my 2024 RX 450 H+. I have reviewed dozens of YouTube videos on the RX and all comparable autos. One thing that bothers me is one of the reviewers says is he has trouble closing the driver side door. It is not a soft closing door, but more like the door needs to be slammed to close. I would appreciate everyone's experience closing the door. If you please also say something about the door handle. I am grateful to all.

First I heard of this for any 23/24 RX. I suspect they just need a simple door adjustment.

However, I am coming from previous RX, NX, X6, so maybe I am just used to it.

2024 RX 350h is 2.5 months old and already noticed less pressure to shut doors. First couple of weeks half the time had to completely close a second time and now 10%.
