Default What's port side install vs dealer?

So were getting a 2024 RX 350h Luxury, but when we asked about getting stuff like illuminated side sills, puddle lights, etc. they said they had to get pricing. Is this normal to charge $600 for the puddle lights, and it be a "separate" deal from buying the car? It's already on the way, I have the Monroney label from the dealer site as well. So is it truly too late? I'm in US and the RX of course is trucked or railed from Canada to here. I just have a hard time wanting to spend money like that, when I can buy them for $110 or so right now from OEM parts sites, and $174 is what Lexus.com shows for it when I add to the car. I don't mind paying something more for the labor, but $400+. By the time I add everything I want, that they can do all in an hour, it will be $1500 just in labor.

So just looking to see if the dealer is that bad, or if that's just common place unless you "order" the car and select it.

Thanks!

Alright then, well, at least I know they are not just trying to rip us off, or just the one dealership then. I've priced it all out, and with a sale right now on a Lexus dealerships parts site, we can get the illuminated side sills, illuminated cargo sill, bumper applique, puddle lights, and mud guards for $683. The dealer want's $599 for the puddle lamps, $299 for mud guards, $250 for the rear bumper applique, and they did not have the price then on the side sills nor cargo sill. Though what they did price was $1148 already. I suspect it would be north of $2000 for them to do it all. Vs the $683 and little bit of labor for us to do it. I don't mind paying someone for their time, but as everyone sees here, how quick and easy to install say puddle lights, $599 just seems excessive, for a $130 MSRP light set that installs very quickly/easily.
Just wish it was all on the car already for warranty's sake, especially if we add the extended warranty (which would buy from a dealer out of state who will sell it just $200 over their price, plus who can do 10 years vs the 8 years max they seem to do here).

What do you mean with puddle lights?

The lexus logo that shines on the floor when front doors are opened?

Or the illuminated Door sill.

Puddle lights shine down from the door to illuminate puddles on the ground, hence the name. They acknowledged that they are an easy install but would prefer installed at port for warranty purposes.

I would wait until the car comes in.
I believe Every RX has the door courtesy lights. The upgrade switches the standard light with one that had no light but only shines a dim Lexus logo on the ground when the door is open. Barely visible

Mine came with those standard. I prefer the regular night lights over this.

Either way the switch is literally 30 seconds. Pop one out and pop the other in. Party should not be much either.

There are actually better versions on AliExpress.

No wiring, no special installation.

Well, the car actually came in, so in the middle of getting it/finishing paperwork now. They are very expensive what they are charging, $599 for sure on the puddle lights where MSRP is $130 per Lexus, and I can buy them for $97 right now on OEM parts sites, ran by dealerships.

Really? They are that "bad"? I had seen people talk about them, but nobody saying that it's barely visible. I've seen some say aftermarket ones tend to not be as clear on the optics as the OEM ones, but not anything about it hardly visible. Are you sure that your dealer put in OEM ones? Or did the window sticker show it was a factory installed option? I have them on a mustang and it's very bright. And my son has a Hyundai and it's very bright on that as well (though is just a light and not say a logo, etc). I think I've seen some dealers install non OEM ones, so it advertises their dealership and such.

In Canada the RX350h executive package comes with them from factory. It's not a port or dealer installed item.

I have the regular curtseys lights on the 2016 as well as my ES had the regular lights that would come with 2024 RX. They are much brighter.

This is my personal opinion though.

They are very visible for those that care. It's a gimmick to me but our 350h has them.

My '23 Luxury came with them, but I certainly wouldn't pay extra for them. There just a neat gimmick.

To me those logo puddle things are trashy and so 2010. Make your car your own and put them on if you like them though.

I guess they come in handy for those that forget what type of car they're driving

The majority of these extras are grossly overpriced and offer very little in return. Our NX450h+ came with the illuminated cargo sill and it is pretty much useless, as it provides very little light. I swapped out the three lights in the cargo area on the RX with a set that I found on eBay and it is now far brighter. It also came with the LEXUS puddle lights at $175! That's about $150 more than what they are worth. The LEXUS logo projection puddle lights are available on both Amazon and eBay at a minimal cost. These are a breeze to change out and you can save a bundle in the process.

I have an Audi. It’s nice to see the 4 rings.

I somehow got a freebie one. It's not THAT dim, and you definitely can see the ground where you're going to step on, with the Lexus name superimposed. Gimmicky, but "useful" for those occasions when you somehow might accidentally step into a puddle of water
