Default Odometer misreading on startup

Just for starters my car has 900 miles. This evening I started the car and by chance noticed a wrench next to the odometer indicating service was due. That struck me as odd but more odd than that was the fact that it showed 9,000+ miles for a few seconds before going to the correct number of 900 and the wrench disappearing. Later that day it did the same thing on start up only this time it read 8,600 miles.

has anyone had an issue like this? I am concerned because such a vital part of the car is misrepresenting the mileage.

Your odometer is not misrepresenting the milage.

‘’The ODO has 3 modes. There is actual milage driven, trip milage which can be reset to zero and the last one is milage before service is due. The little wrench is indicating the number of miles before service is due. Service is due at 10,000 miles so if you had 900 miles on the odometer, it should show around 9100 miles before service is due, indicated by the wrench.

There is a lot of tech in this car. The owners manual covers all, but it's best review it for vital instrument cluster and gauges; since most cars are not the same.
