Default CarPlay in HUD

Am I correct that the left sided steering wheel controls will not work to change stations or tracks relative to applications that are contained only in Apple CarPlay? I have my favorites set up in my SiriusXM app, and the station shows up in the HUD when I hover my finger over the control, but I cannot advance to the next saved station like it does when I am utilizing SiriusXM through the Lexus audio interface. Rather, I need to use the touchscreen to change stations. Am I missing something?

Possibly related, I didn't know the HUD button mapping was configurable:

I'm disappointed in how limited the button programming is for the steering wheel controls with HUD. Really makes me think not using set buttons was a poor ergonomics choice with almost no benefit. This video shows how little choice you actually get. Although it is for the 2022 NX, The RX uses the same system so I expect no difference.
