Default Differential & Transfer Case Fluid Change

Which brand and viscosity are you guys using?

Gear oil from the Dealer is expensive. I am looking at Valvoline Synpower 75W90, which is slightly thicker from factory spec 75W85. Would a 75W90 be to thick for the cold season (below 32F)? Any change of noise if used 75W90?

Thanks

I use the Redline 75W85 that you can find on amazon pretty regularly for about $23 a quart. The 75W90 should be fine but you'll notice a decrease in your MPG (based on the Tacoma guys)

Car Care Nut did a video on the fluids (see link below) as well as the procedure and when to do the first and subsequent changes (a separate video).

I did mine at 30k and use the Toyota/Lexus fluid. The price was not crazy expensive, but will use what CCN recommends on the next change.

I put Amsoil’s Severe Gear 75W90 in mine. It runs just as normal!
