Default Grinding after diff and ATF fluid change

So I took the car to Lexus for ATF fluid and diff oil change. Now have a vibration or grinding/shimmy type sensation when turning hard left or right at walking speed. Straight line feels normal. It shifts gears very smoothly and I feel like the vibration is coming from the rear axle. The invoice says they used c0bba-80w90 hdplus80w90 gear oil. Is this wrong oil? Mine is MY2011. I'll be going back to lexus obviously but would like to be well informed before I do. Thanks.

The correct oil viscosity for your differential is 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent. For the Transmission it’s Toyota Genuine ATF WS. I just did the diff service myself on my 2012. No issues.

The diff oil needs to be LX variant not the LT variant. There must be additives or something in the LX variant that the 2011 LSD Torsten unit needs to stop this grinding/noise sensation.

Yes I would make sure they followed the FSM and/or owners manual…

Sounds like they dealership used their in house 80/90 gear oil.

Minimally, it should be synthetic equivalent if not the OEM stuff..

This new oil should last 60K miles which may now take me forever to put on my IS F

Thanks for all the feedback. Ill get the dealership to rectify this asap. But should I be concerned about possible damage done or undue wear in the roughly 100km I put on since the change?

If there is then it’s already done. You would think a dealership would know what they’re doing. Reason why I do all the work myself.

Completely agree. I had a master technician at a Lexus dealership do an oil change on my 2011 IS F. I didn’t make it half a mile & I got low engine oil light. I NEVER seen that light & turned around immediately. It turned out the master tech thought it was a V6. Then there’s the other techs who overfill the oil. Now I have a 2012 IS F. I started tackling all these maintenance items myself.

You have the incorrect viscosity documented. If there is damage, you can take it up with Corporate if you have to. That’s if the dealership doesn’t own up to it.

There’s no damage to worry about in 60 miles..

Just have them document the error and correct with proper differential fluid..!!

That's reassuring! I hope you're right cause it grinds like it's going to self destruct in seconds. Car is parked till I take it back to Lexus. I just can't get over the level of incompetence!

Well, just because it is a Lexus dealership does not mean they are getting anymore qualified techs than say ford, gm, chrysler, etc. They all get them from the same pool of people. My lexus isf has always been maintained at the dealer, and one time I drove home after an oil change just to find my dipstick missing lmao. Then at the most recent oil change the wrong oil was recorded on my receipt, and had to call to reassure that they filled my car with the correct one, like bruh.

You really don’t want to know what happens behind the scenes at stealerships. I’ve worked at Honda and Acura as a tech. They will lie to your face about anything and everything. Reason why I refuse to take my car in. Just to get the air bag recall, dash, and door panels I had the stupid clowns dent my fender in two different spots. They swore to me up and down it came in like that. Mind you my level of OCD is beyond our solar system so I knew 999% he was lying! At Honda we had barrels filled with no name brand dino oil 5w-30. Not all Hondas take that kind of oil so I asked management what do I do about cars that take different oil and they told me “put it in anything that comes in that door”. So in reality anything could be in your diff.

Exactly this. This is why I do all my own maintenance. I know what was done, what products were used, and if there's an issue, I know who caused it. I've only used dealerships for warranty work and I've inspected their work every time. When I had the coolant pump replaced under warranty on my IS F, they failed to clean up the coolant mess on the engine undercover. I took it back to them and asked how was I supposed to believe the problem was fixed when there is still dried coolant in the engine bay? I really intensely dislike the quality of service in flat rate shops.

Update: dealer replaced with the proper LX type diff oil and now grinding/vibration is completely gone. Didnt see any metal shavings on the magnetic plug bolt either so hope all's good.
