Backup Wide Angle Camera view on 2019 RX vs. 2020
Hi all,
I’ve noticed that the 2020 RX without panoramic view monitor (pvm) has the option to change the backup camera to the “wide angle” rather than the “standard”. But on the 2019-2016, this doesn’t seem to be an option unless equipped with the pvm. Am I getting something confused? Because isn’t the backup camera on 2016-2021 RXs the same even with or without the pvm?
thanks in advance,
lorn

That's correct. You also didn't have the ability to adjust what guidelines showed up on the backup camera unless you had the panoramic view monitor in the 2016-2019 RXs, at least that's the case here in Canada.
I could be wrong, but I didn't notice anything different with the backup camera when I had a 2020 RX as a loaner so probably one of those odd Lexus decisions to leave some features out and then add them back later on.

If you look at the bottom right of the backup camera view, there's a mode where you can change the rear trajectory lines. There's three functions: the estimated course lines you'll find on all RXs, the parking assist guidelines you'll find only on 2016-2019 RXs with the panoramic view monitor and you can also get rid of all the lines except for the distance guide line. I just leave it on the estimated course lines since I find they're the most useful when I'm backing up into a space.

I know in the settings there is a way to alter the lines, I have 3 colours to show the dimensions of the vehicle, the direction of the tires when moving and the red bumper line. I'll look in the settings to see if I can find the wide angle. Thanks for posting this photo!

I’ve tried looking in the settings, let me know if you find anything. When Lexus does this it is very frustrating, it’s all the same hardware but there is just a stupid software button only if you opt for the view monitor, so it’s not like they designed the new feature for the 2020s+, they just didn’t care

I discovered just yesterday that this wide angle mode is available only if one has the 360 degree camera view.

The PVM is where you can see the birds eye view of the car. I am saying it is annoying that Lexus had the clear ability to include the wide angle, but just didn’t care

Cocal, in the picture a few posts up, the bottom left button, that is the one that zooms in on the backup cam, or changes to the 360 view as well. its a toggle, just keep hitting the same button.

psst, thats an option you have to pay for. I think its part of the 360 degree camera system.
