Sorry if this might be trivial to many people, but I was replacing the floor mat and notice the floor was not even/flat in my new 2021 RX350... Both floors for front seat and back seat are higher towards the back and lower in the front. When I look under the front seat from the back side, I saw a flat structure under the floor cover. Is it the same for all the vehicles? I didn't have these bumps in my previous cars...
In addition, just a few days in, I noticed a chip on the hood... I did a quick research online on the touch-up process, and bought some materials. Here is what I am planning:
1. polish with Mothers 05100 Mag & Aluminum Polish (
)
2. clean with 70% alcohol (not the denatured alcohol recommended in the link...)
3. since the chip is so small, I am thinking skip the primer step...
4. paint, I bought Eminent White Pearl
)
5. wax the area (this is not in the link, is it necessary? It is recommended in another article I read)
Welcome anyone has any advice! Thank you in advance!
Front seat floor, higher towards the back (as shown in the pic that the folding line is not straight) View under the front seat, the back seat floor has the same sliding issue. Food or other trash might potentially roll into those holes, is that ok/safe? The chip is deep to the metal, though it is small...
You can touch up that tiny spot but you'll never get a great match as I think you have atomic silver? Multi stage paint like many others these days. But it appears so small, you just need to get that bare metal protected.
The carpets not being level is normal and theres not much you can do about it. Its sound deadening material, I was curious of this also. For rock chips I use the lexus touch up paint and I also have a white rx (ultra white). I believe the touch up paint at the dealership was 13 around bucks (two stages).
For the rock chip just take it in for service at the dealership and they usually touch it up for free as long as your getting some maintenance done. Doesnt have to be perfect just cover the metal so the metal doesnt oxidize/rust leading to issues in the future. But the dealership paint people do a pretty darn good job with touch up paint, as rock chips are common and the painting tech regularly does it so they have a good amount of experience.
But if you wana do it ill share some of my experience. Cleaning the surface with alcohol and then putting a blob slightly smaller than the chip with the base coat and letting it dry for 20-30 mins and then going back with the base coat to fill in the edges as well as the blob is the way to go. The touch up paint for base coats is almost all lacquer with a small amount of paint unlike regular paint so it will shrink by an incredible amount. Its mostly lacquer to make it bonds well, but since yours is so small you can probably just do one application. The clear coat or second paint is impossible to match with a brush. The amount of "metal flakes" is impossible to match with a brush, trust me I tried, to test it try it on some cardboard and youll immediately see how it differs than your actual paint when you compare it. You can over apply it and wet sand and then polish it but you do need to know what your doing. I can do a better job than the dealership with wet sanding and polishing it after but i avoid doing it and take it to the dealership, its just too much work.
