Weird Lexus app issue resolved - public DNS
I've been troubleshooting a weird Lexus App (black icon) problem on my Android phone. The symptom was it would either hang on login or Chrome would pop up a "Your connection is not private," "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID" message. It seemed random until I realized it only happened when at home with a wi-fi connection. After more fiddling, I figured out that the public DNS provider that I use for my home internet service, OpenDNS, thinks https://login.lexusdriverslogin.com is a phishing site. The app uses that URL to establish a connection to the Lexus Drivers site. Interestingly, I've never had an issue accessing the Lexus Drivers site from my laptop, although it uses a different URL for the login (https://www.driverslogin.com.)
The resolution was to add login.lexusdriverslogin.com to the OpenDNS Never Block exclusion list for my home network. I've had no issues since making that change.
I have a vacation place in which I use Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Quad9 (9.9.9.9) for DNS. I'll test the app there next weekend and update this thread, as needed.
No response is expected, but perhaps this information will save someone else some time in the future.
