Just a thought.. Is your car affected by the fuel pump recall?
I did see the fuel pump recall notice. The 2016 RX350 in not included on it.
Lexus mechanic that the car was taken to on 5/1 suggest that the vehicle should be taken to the dealer for a software update that has elements of the problem in it. The dealer has the car today 5/4.
Since this is a no cost option and is covered if the vehicle has less than 80,000 miles on it, might as well try it. In doing so maybe it will turn up another clue. I believe the problem still lies with the variable valve timing cam, solenoid, or electronics because of the P1014 code.
The owner and I agree in not throwing money at the problem until the source of the problem is reasonably located.
Thank you goatee for the input. We’ll see what happens.
Status Update: The owner always stops filling the car when the pump clicks off.
The car was taken to the local Lexus dealer on 6/4 (5/4 date on previous post was incorrect) for software update. The dealer called the owner the next day and said they were going to replace the gas tank and the EVAP canister..When asked about the cost and why that might fix it when the P1014 code pointer to the VVT system the owner was told that when the car was purchased used that it came with a certified pre-owned vehicle warranty. And since the car had less than 80,000 miles on it the warranty would cover the repairs
Owner agreed to having this work done since it was being done under warranty. Owner picked up the car on 6/8 and has been driving it since then. Owner now in wait and see what happens mode. It will be at least two to three more weeks before a determination is made as to whether the car is fixed. The engine usually quits running within 2-3 weeks of the previous time it happened.

Good luck, I think SFFD785 was on to finding root cause being associated with over filling the tank. I know people reported similar issues on the Nissan forum with Murano’s with the EVAP when they didn’t stop pumping the gas after the first click. I am surprised they replaced the whole gas tank as simply stop overfilling and maybe replacing the EVAP would have been sufficient. Keep us posted.

Modern cars are a tricky man!
So many systems just for emissions, it's crazy and very expensive to repair. Never go the extra clicks to get a 1/4 tank of fuel as it will cost thousands. Luckily it was all covered under warranty. I'm not positive, but emissions systems are usually covered longer due to the cost and importance of the environment.

Couldn’t agree more, good call on overfilling the tank. I just came from owning a Murano that had me covered in grease every few weeks replacing almost everything besides the transmission the past few years. Once that went at 344kms I was done. I enjoy working on cars, but don’t think I am going to be able to do too much on the RX as everything is electronic, so hoping it will be reliable..
Looks like SFFD785 was on the right track when he suggested that the EVAP unit might be the problem. It's been a month and 3 days since the local Lexus dealer replace the gas tank and the EVAP unit on the car under warranty. The RX350 hasn't quit running since then. It appears that the problem is fixed. The owner did tell me that she always stopped filling the car when the pump clicked off. She had bought the car used so it's unknown what the previous owner did. Thanks to everyone that responded for their help.
