'94 SC400...One owner 275k.... tight eng, full compression. no oil leaks..... alt light came on.... checked at 11 volts out put. New batt can be jumpted but engine dies on acceleration..... trans will not shift out of park even when using manual release. Anyone have any ideas or is the alt the total problem ?

 

Sounds like dead alternator, running off pure battery power. Fix the issues, should be reading 14's when the car is running. If it's still an issue afterwards, check all grounds.

 

is the battery putting out 11v with the engine on or off?
if it's with it on, your alternator is bad needs to be replaced. would explain other symptoms completely.
if it's with the engine off, what is the voltage reading with the engine running?
