2020 Navi Question - Lexus vs A.A. or C.P.
Hello,
I've had my 2020 RX 350 for 1 month now and thought I would always use Android Auto. But to be honest I find the Lexus Navi to be quite good. Plus I like the choices displayed on the smaller right hand screen more than AA.
My question is, How do YOU feel about Lexus Navi vs either AA or Car Play?
Thanks and stay well.

I've only been a 2020 owner for two days, so my experience is limited. My early impressions of with the the built-in nav are very good. It has a much more appealing look than AA. I like the freeway upcoming exit info, showing gas, coffee etc very cleanly.
AA only uses about 2/3rds of the screen and puts a way-to-big direction box over a portion of the map. My phone has a 6.5" screen, so AA doesn't really add much visual improvement, and is worse in some ways. I had a fleet car a few years ago that had AA and I rarely used it, even though I used, and still use, Google Maps virtually every trip. The Maps traffic info is hard to beat. That's the one thing the Lexus nav doesn't seem to do well, and is the most important feature to me. I need more stick time with it, though, to give a better assessment.
I may end up with my phone mounted on vent clip and just use Google Maps, and also turn on the Lexus nav when on a long freeway trip.

I purchased my RX without Nav since it had CarPlay. I think that it works great. I can use either Waze or Google Maps (or Apple Maps which is much improved over it's first inception). I prefer the view on Google Maps esp for seeing live traffic before I drive into a traffic jam. Can zoom in or out so it works perfectly for what I use it for. I have a 50 mile commute each direction, so running traffic on Google Maps is on the screen, and then I listen to Audible books in the background. Works perfectly. So factory Navi is nice but for me it was not needed so I decided to not purchase with CarPlay and touchscreen now standard.

My first Lexus was a 2005 SC430. Hated the built-in nav. Very stubborn. If I deviated from the system's preferred route, it could nag me for 200 miles to "make a legal u-turn ......." We were living in Northern CA with narrow streets. My wife hated the limited visibility, and traded it after a year. Next had a 2006 RX400h. Some improvements in the nav, but google maps was relatively primitive back then. Our next Lexus was a 2015 RX450h, out first Lexus with other than the DVD-based nav. Much improved, but Google maps had also significantly advanced.. We generally used the built-in Lexus nav, simply because it was easier than mounting the phone. Had to always be careful, as the system would, on occasion, take us where we really didn't want to go. Our next Lexus was a 2018 NX300h. The nav is much improved over previous models, but still significantly inferior to Google. At the end of our lease (July 2021) we'll either buy it out or get a new RX450h with some of the features we really want (e.g., panoramic view, head-up display). Also, we had a 2020 RX350 loaner at our last service, and I realize how much I miss the luxury feel and ride of the RX.. We won't be leasing this time, as I'm retired and plan to keep our next car forever.. We also picked up a 2007 SC430 Pebble Beach Edition with 68,000 miles a few months ago. Living in Arizona, I really wanted a convertible.
Bottom line is that I prefer the google maps for their features, and the Lexus built-in for convenience.

Rented a cheap Chevrolet while in Florida that had AA. First experience with it. Found replying to a text message a great plus. Found entering an address or name of a POI much more accurate then with the Lexus nav. My wife via voice state a Thai restaurant that i thought would never recognize the name but bingo. What I did not like about it was the map and as someone stated above no turn list. Turned to early and to late a couple of time which never do with the Lexus nav. All being said though next car will definitely have it.
There is no way that a factory installed navi system can keep up with a smart phone app which is updated daily. Not even RR or Bentley.
These are updated at best every 6 months to 1 year, cost is the reason I'm sure.

I tried both, but prefer Car Play over Lexus navigation system. I love my Google maps and my history. But I am impressed at the Lexus system too. I changed from an Acura MDX which has the worst in class infotainment system. Since I have no plans to update my Lexus maps, it is better I use Car Play where the maps are updated all the time.
I bought a ‘20 450h yesterday morning. In that brief time, I’ve been playing around w/ using CarPlay for Apple Maps & Google Maps vs the Lex Nav screen. Thus far I enjoy the Lex Nav screens better than what CarPlay displays for either Apple or google maps.

Apple CarPlay Map app is superior (especially with Siri, As well as for searching for rest stops, etc), so we use it on longer trips almost exclusively. For most local driving the built-in Lexus nav is 80% as good and quite sufficient.
Google maps only takes up 2/3 of the space on screen when using Android Auto, how to fix this?
Apple Carplay use the full screen when using google maps.
Also, when will Waze work on AA?
Thanks
