Sunnyday32, if NB is New Brunswick I'm surprised and saddened to hear your RX beat up as someone tried to steal it. Please let me know as I also live near the only Lexus dealer in the province and have never even thought about car theft here....

Thieves use a booster to capture your FOB signal to open the door and then they use a computer to clone another FOB.
Best thing is to turn off the key or keep it in a Faraday purse or cage

The stories popping up now are owners with FOBs in pouches.

There is a sure way to solve the problem and that is to do away with all proximity keys and go back to the previous system.

Not all technology is good and sometimes it's done only because it can be done.

All cars with proximity/smart access keys are at risk of being stolen. There are multiple stories of luxury cars (Mercedes, Tesla, Audi, BMW, etc.) that are being stolen right from owners’ driveways (caught on CCTV). Thieves are using relay box that sends a signal to keys inside the house, then allows them to get in the car and drive away. It’s important to keep your cars far away from your parked car or inside a metal box (to keep signals from being communicating with your car).

All automakers are struggling with this problem, which may explain the move to keyless vehicles (smart card in wallet or app on phone).

According to post #32, a guy in Toronto claims his Lexus was stolen(on video cam)while both his fobs were in Faraday pouches.......?

Test the pouches by seeing if they will open and start the car. I tried it and the pouches succeeded.

Um, succeeded in opening the car, or succeeded in preventing it?

"The pouches succeeded" implies the pouch did what it was supposed to do, i.e. blocking the key fob signal, preventing opening the door or starting the car ...

".....seeing if they will open and start the car...….the pouches succeeded".

Thanks, but that's not how I read it.

That's how I read it too, the pouches effectively blocked the signal, but it was written poorly.

Even if you heard someone outside your home they could be gone before you get to the door.

I went to Mont-Tremblant where there was a wave of stolen 4RX. I used aluminium foil to wrap the FOB and locked manually the doors so that no signal would be sent to the vehicle to lock the doors.

Once wrapped in the foil, it was displaying the message "Key not detected" when pressing the start button. It works very well!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that two guys have been arrested the week after, one in a car and the other in a tow truck.
