I also now see the little red LED through the plastic on my fobs. Learn something every day.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot!

OK, I just tried it and yes, the red light is visible through the black plastic case. Wonder how they do that?

There is no visible circle or a hole on mine but once I push any button light comes through.

I agree with the other posts. This is a flaw with any car that uses keyless entry.

Potential Solutions:
1. Use a manual steering lock
2. Tin Box
3. Faraday Box / Key covers. These are small pouches lined with metal lining which block all kind of signals, unless you take the key out of the box.
4. Indoor Garage with locked doors.

Hope it helps

I've started using a Faraday pouch.

Default 4RX and theft

Recently had the unfortunate experience of finding my car beat up to high heaven as someone tried to steal it. A sight I’d never expected to see if deep suburbia surrounded by neighbours with similar highlianders, RXs and minivans. Only had my car a few months so it’s super disappointing to have it in a Body Shop.

I’d read they were a big target for theft but wondering what experiences folks have had with theirs and any precautions they’ve taken beyond locking their keys in a box to prevent signal boosting.

Any good tips to share?

actually the RX is on the list of extremely unlikely to be stolen. Strange. Sorry it happened to you, I once had some low life thugs try to steal a car of mine but we’re too stupid for the crime and cut the fuel controller wires to steal the electronics before they tried to start the car. Needless to say it didn’t start for them!

Along this line of thinking if you really wanted to make it difficult to steal, i’d recommend adding a cut off switch to some important component and not tell anyone about it.

Maybe it’s a Canadian thing since we didn’t have Enform until this year. It’s been pretty popular for theft based on recent data apparently, along with its Toyota counterparts

Secure the fobs in a case that prevents the signals from being grabbed.

Honestly if they want it bad enough there going to take it. I went through the phases when I was teen of trying to prevent theft. First it was the club on the steering wheel, then the one for the clutch, viper alarms, the hidden kill switches all of that. Then I realized once they actually broke in and couldn’t steal my car demolished my dash trying to pry out my radio, to only steal my screwdriver from the glove box and take out the two screws that held in the radios bezel that if they get that far I want the car gone and never seen again.

My 2017 RX was stolen last night in Montreal. Apparently it’s pretty common and easy to steal

That sucks. Any idea what happened? Parked outside or inside?

Parked outside my parents house (I’m visiting) in a very safe neighbourhood. Locked and keys were inside, nowhere close to the garage or front/back doors. Stroller and other baby gear in the trunk gone too. Police think the thieves used a device to clone the key. I keep reading about other incidents like this. I would have thought Lexus would have figured out a fix for this.

I wish Lexus would come up with a fix. My understanding is the door lock mechanism and the immobiliser can be overcome without setting off the alarm. There are an increasing number of reports of thefts in Canada specifically targeting the 4th gen RX
