Google Maps audio problem on Android
On my Lexus 2016 rx350. I have to turn off enable blue tooth connection on app menu otherwise I don’t get any audio at all. Is there anyway to get it to play over car speakers. I have a android phone Motorola moto z3
Two choices for this:
1) Play only sources from your phone such as Pandora or Spotify and let the phone do everything.
Music will play and Map notifications and phone calls will break in and fade out. Limitation is that
you can not listen to AM/FM/XM/CD sources.
2) Go into the settings of Google Maps or better still, WAZE and set the voice to "Bluetooth as Phone Call"
Now you can listen to anything and the Map notifications will break in just as your phone calls do now.
Be sure to keep your phone hooked up to a charging port, navigation apps really drain the phone battery.

s9 android 8.0
Thanks!
Maybe it varies depending on Android version. On my Samsung S5 running Android 6.0.1, I select Google Maps "Settings" ... "Navigation Settings" .... and then enable "Play voice over Bluetooth".
the speaking on other sources was of intrest, especially waze, for its added "information " 😉
WAZE is the best nav app going. When you are running it on your phone you are contributing to
the collective knowledge. Thirty folks rolling along at 61 MPH? The screen will tell everyone the
average along that stretch. Add to everyone's experience by tapping the lower right icon and then
tapping on what ever you have seen, slow traffic, pothole, Officer Friendly... Two caveats regarding
WAZE are 1) you are adding (subtracting really) if you have the app on when not driving, 0 MPH right?
2) WAZE like all navigation apps take quite a bit of power so keep your device plugged in while using
them.

When I connect the phone to the vehicle's Bluetooth I can play music from the car's speakers. It is very clear and the connection has no issues. But whenever I open Google Maps there is no audio coming out of either the car speakers or phone's speaker. Basically, all Google Maps navigation instructions become mute. Yes, I did turn the Bluetooth audio volume on the Android systems settings to the highest level.
This is very annoying because of whenever I drive I have to disconnect all Bluetooth functions just so I can hear the Google Maps direction instructions(which I can hear directly from my phone's speakers when the phone is disconnected from Bluetooth) Lexus RX 2017 built-in GPS maps are so bad it is like from 1980s or something. I literally hate using it even with the big screen.
Am I missing some kind of setting in the RX's system module or on my Android software? I have a Samsung S9+ running Android 9 (Pie) with One UI 1.0 on the latest software module.
I searched the forums here and could not find anything. I can't be the only one who is experiencing this problem.

There have been other threads about this. This is a "feature" of Google Maps - perhaps to make Android Auto more attractive. If Google Maps had the option to play its navigation audio over the Bluetooth Voice Call Stream, you could hear the navigation instructions while you are listening to music over the Bluetooth Music Stream. It doesn't. Some Android apps do. For example, when I'm in a vehicle that has Bluetooth but not the capability of reading incoming text messages to me, I use the Android app "A2DP Volume Service" to read the text messages to me over the Bluetooth Voice Call Stream which pauses the music I am listening to over the Bluetooth Music Stream.

I didn't know this was the case. I mean, I recently started using Google Maps for daily driving trips. I usually use built-in maps (that comes with the vehicle).
