Default Audio from IPhone

I am very ignorant of all workings of the entertainment and other digital functions of the car, and also I am not knowledgeable about the IPhone so I hope I can phrase this question somewhat intelligently. My wife has an I-phone and uses it to read Facebook messages in the car. When she tries to listen to an audio attached by someone to a Facebook message, it does not come through the phone. When not in the vehicle, it works fine. Is there something in the car system causing this? Is it something about Bluetooth of which I know nothing. Simple answers would be appreciated. We have a 2016 RX350.
Thanks

Make sure the Bluetooth on her phone is turned on and the phone is paired with the car.

This is a design flaw in my opinion. Whatsapp voice notes (and from your question, looks like all messaging voice notes) will only play over the cars speakers when the audio is in bluetooth mode. That's fine, except that the phone won't play it over the phone's speaker because it thinks that it is going over bluetooth! So say I am listening to the radio, and someone sends me a voicenote, I either have to manually switch the car audio over to bluetooth every time I want to hear it, or I need to shut the iPhone's bluetooth off temporarily. I wish someone has a fix to this!

Android functions the same way, so you're not alone.

First disclaimer question...is your bride reading/listening to Facebook while driving?

If not, check the sound settings of the app for "play messages as a phone call" or
similar verbage. Waze and other Navigation Apps can "break in" on music to speak
a command and then return to the program already in progress.
