The Porsche Macan is way too small. It's more NX size than RX size; it even felt smaller than the NX. Friend had a Macan S. It handled beautifully for an SUV, but maintenance was really expensive ($400 for 10K miles service & $800 for 20K miles service).
That is nuts - what do they do - line the oil filter with 18K gold?

I was so surprised to see 2017 Porsche was equal to Lexus. However, I looked through 2016,2015...2012 JD power and porsche goes up and down when Lexus was always number one.
I live a very data driven life. Not that reliability is the most important thing, but if you look at the average of PP100 from 2013-2017 it comes out to this:
Lexus 86.6
Porsche 108.4
Buick 114.4
Toyota 114.6
Mercedes-Benz 120.8
However averages hide the history. While Porsche looks like it's improving, the fluctuations are a lot more significant than Lexus.
I will definitely consider either the Macan or SQ5 for my wife, but they are in a completely different class of SUV (small sports nimble city SUV vs. mid-size comfort roadtrip cruiser).

I know, right?! I've also seen figures for 30K mile service to be $800 again and 40K miles service to be $1610. Some owners reported needing front brakes at 30K miles at an additional cost of $1500, and tires for an additional $1500.
I think many people don't take into account maintenance cost when considering some cars. Porsche is pretty much an exotic car brand, so they charge exotic car prices for maintenance. Not sure how much you can save at independent shops, but parts alone are a lot.

Cool. Yeah, next car I am considering a Porsche but still not sure.

I traded an NX for a Macan S. One of the reasons why was because the front two seats feel much roomier, not to mention more comfortable. It's easier to get in and out of. My passengers kept saying the NX felt cramped...no complaints in the Macan. I did a pre paid 5 year maintenance package on the Macan. The NX was a GREAT suv...don't get me wrong. Macan is just more comfortable to me and had some features not available on NX....like 360 camera, better audio packages, and Apple Carplay.

Cool. IF you don't mind me asking, what was the price difference from a fully loaded NX?

If my memory serves me correct...the price difference was around 15-16K not including any dealer add ons. My Macan S has no Nav only Apple Carplay which held the price down a little. I use Apple Maps for nav. Kinda nice not having any map updates.

The RX is the winner after test driving both. Now the arm wrestle with the dealers begins this week. Wish me luck and thanks for your input to everyone.
I was initially interested in the 2018 Q5. In order to match what you get with an RX, you would have to get the top of the line " Prestige" model with Driver Assistance Package. Very hard/almost impossible to find this "in stock," so you would have to special order. Much more difficult to negotiate a good price than with an RX because there are so few around.

My daughter just bought a Q5. Gorgeous car - 6% off was the best she could get. Definitely less haggle room there.
Like to add a twist and say look at the 2018 Volvo XC60. Before anyone jumps on me, remember this is MY personal opinion. I thought my wife and I would own Lexus's forever but they have gone in another direction. We think the front grill is hideous. Go to other web sites like YouTube, Road & Track and read the comments from the general public on the front grill. They are 90% against. The cheap black plastic around the wheel wells looks RAV4ish. We like light interiors and would never consider buying a black interior vehicle. At least 60% of the light interior on the 2016 and newer is black. It is not light interior. Look at the wheel wells, front grill and the interior color of the Volvo. The plug in hybrid gets 30 miles all electric and than 50 mpg's after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL2S0o0LCWU
You would be trading a 6 cyl to a overcompressed 4 cyl.
I tried the XC60. Had my checkbook ready.
Sorry, but the engine is not even in the same league as the Lexus. It is not about power numbers, is about how the engine delivers the power. There is no way a overcompressed 4 cyl will be as smooth as a 6 cyl.

So I need to think about a Kia now, as they are leading the PP100 rankings. For the first time ever.
