Default Installed Today

dealer ordered on Wed, they arrived today & had 'em installed. they did a perfect job...made sure the installer used the template so the moldings slope downward to match the shaping of the lower portion of the door. $359 with labor & taxes. expen$ive but gonna stop worrying about dings.

I just wanted to add that my new-to-me 2019 RX450h F-Sport that I bought about two weeks ago already had the door moldings installed (mud guards also), and I personally like the way the look. Maybe it's because my previous 2006 RX400h also had them, but I think the moldings help "break up" what I feel is a lot more door area on the 4RX series.

Just my two cents!

Sharp RX! Congratulations. I'm partial, of course, but Atomic Silver is my favorite color for the RX. Not usually a fan of the side moldings, but they do look good on yours.

Thanks!! I was initially set on the Nebula Grey Pearl as I really liked my 06's Flint Mica, but then saw an Atomic Silver and really liked it also. So I waited for a L-Certified loaded F-Sport with one of these two exterior colors to come across my radar...

I think the side moldings blend in quite well, really complimenting the lower curvature/indentation along the bottom. Next up is tinting the front windows and full front paint protection film...

I installed the Atomic Silver side moldings on my 2019 RX a couple of years ago. I'm glad I did and I installed them myself. I had an incident around Thanksgiving where I noticed there was a deep chip in the side molding. Apparently, another car door had hit it hard enough to put a serious chip in the side molding. I wasn't too happy about that when I discovered it but if it hadn't been for the side molding I would have a very unattractive dent in my door.

To follow up on an earlier question regarding how well the side mouldings do or do not prevent door dings - have any of the folks who have had these installed experienced any door dings that the moulding didn't prevent? Given the number of larger trucks and suvs on the road, I'm guessing these would not prevent some careless people in those types of vehicles from "leaving their mark". I have no problem with the way they look - just don't know that spending $130 to get them is worth it.

First off, $130 to prevent door dings is a bargain! Just one door ding can easily cost more than $200 to fix & that’s not fixing any paint. Yes, I have a few pock marks in the paint above my molding from stupid morons in big trucks. If I didn’t have the molding, both sides of my car would look like a hail storm. They are tremendously worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply - Yeah I hear you on the cost to fix a bad ding, but my new to me 2017 already has a few bruises on her (not dings but a small scrape behind the rear drivers side wheel and a few rock chips in the hood). I'm guessing your molding has quite a few nicks as well. I think it just goes with the territory of a used car. I'm just thinking I can just live with her "as is" and enjoy the ride.

My recommendation would be to get the door mouldings, esp. if you plan to keep your RX for many, many years.

Even with my door guards on the 2019 (and my old 2006 for that matter) I still park far away from others just to avoid the possibility of stupid people not paying attention or not caring. Plus the extra steps can't do much harm either...

Actually, my moldings are in perfect shape. It’s the paint above the molding that has the damage. If you plan on keeping this car, protect it & get the moldings.

I may go ahead and get them as they could be cheap insurance against SOME dents but your statement that yours are in perfect shape and the paint above them is where the door ding impacts are makes an argument against their efficacy. I would expect them to take most of the impacts from careless parking lot idiots and would reflect the marks from them. FWIW I do like the look of them and may get them just on that point alone. Thanks for your insight.

Now.....for those door edge guards...

The ONLY reason I’ve taken damage to the sides of my paint is from trucks. Nothing will protect against that, because they sit so much higher than a car or even a SUV. One stupid old man hit my mirror with his pos pickup at the hardware store! You just can’t protect against every idiot in a parking lot. Even the jackasses that park sideways in the back of the lot get hit by stray shopping carts. This is what my moldings look like & I highly encourage you to get them:

I've seen a few pics with those that have the metal strip on them. I can see why they would perhaps not leave a mark if hit. Those look good, but I'm more inclined to go with the other style that is slightly curved and all body colored.

My moldings look like they have metal in the center, but they do not.
