If you are looking to upgrade speakers, I'd highly recommend Hertz Hi-Energy speakers. They should be compatible with the factory amp - as I have them installed on my current NX. Very warm sounding speakers.
agree completely. What do you mean by 3 band equalizer....?

This was my plan too. Wait a bit for the sub to break in. I found out that after about a month or so the low's came and although not quite as punchy as a JL, it sounded very good.

What we hear is different for most of us. Signals seem to really change what we hear as well. I have the ML and enjoy what my old deaf ears can hear. I'm sure I would be happy with the 12 speaker system as well. Playing the drums for 20+ years has fried my hearing so I would be the last person to ask how good a system sounds.

There is already a sub woofer at the back in luggage compartment. If you add more base, the interior parts might fall apart by shaking themselves lose.

Hi Guys; just got my 350 f-sport last memorial day. I've been searching this forum but couldn't find any answer to my question. Anyway, how do you get to the equalizer and imaging settings? Do you have to have separate settings for each sound source, and do you have to have it active when you set the preferences? I hope i posted in the right thread. Thanks.

You setup the Sound settings based on each audio source. It will be saved for the active audio source only.

I would say is a matter of personal preference.

For me, the ML in 4RX is the best sounding car audio I've had. Compared to base 12 speaker system in Canada the ML was significantly better. Much clearer sound even at full blast. Lots of punch and even though the sound is front biased, it is realistic, since it's tuned like a concert hall.

Again, it's personal preference. I would compare them with the same song before signing the deal.

What can be an alternative speaker ?
Thanks
Well..... Thats the way the system is designed. The speakers in the front doors are woofers. The crossover is set to deliver only low frequencies to those speakers, so any new coaxial speaker would be a waste since the tweeter wouldn't get a signal. That being said, removing the front door woofers and not replacing with another 6x9 woofer will result in significantly reduced bass response. You will also need to craft custom adapters as there is no aftermarket adapter for the ML system. Metra and Scoche adapters for toyota do not fit. I did, however, install Hertz High Energy Coaxial speakers in the rear doors, as they do receive a full spectrum signal from the amp. The clarity is much improved, at the slight expense of bass response since coaxial speakers usually produce less bass than component systems. Doesn't really matter, though as I have a JL audio sub installed in the rear, so bass is amazing on my setup.

Personally, I think the ML system is excellent compared to other hi-end systems I've had in other vehicles. Including cars that I've done some custom work to. The highs are clear without being bright, the mids are tight and the bass isn't too punchy - a fairly balanced system. What I will say, is when others often complain their car audio sounds bad, take a look at you settings on your streaming device. If you're using an iPhone, make sure the equalizer is set to flat in the settings menu. Anything other than flat or off is going to create an artificial increase or decrease in bass and treble, depending on what it's set to. For example, if you're set to Rock, the bass is going to sound muddy and punchy, almost to the extent that it sounds like the woofers are bottoming out, even at low volume. I have my system set to treble +1, mid -2 and bass either flat or +1 depending on my mood. Keep in mind that adding a separately amped subwoofer will take your bass experience to another level all together. While the ML sub is adequate, I find it ridiculous that there is no separate setting in the audio menu to increase or decrease response on it's own.

I only replaced the rear door speakers with Hertz Hi Energy coaxial. I wouldn't bother with the hybrid tweeters that are in the dash and rear door area. They are a special hybrid mid/tweet that will be very difficult to find a replacement for. One manufacturer you could try is CDT audio. They make excellent speakers, but they are expensive.

Default Sound quality - it is all about "front stage" for oem set up?

I have navi which means I also have "LEXUS 12-SPEAKER PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM"
It sounds pretty good for me (driver) but every time I have rear seat passengers they always note that sound is very "dull" and only coming from the front. Last night I heard this complaint once again and got in the back seat to hear it for myself. They are 100% correct - very dull sounding music and only coming from the front. I started playing around with limited EQ our RX has and jumping front to back trying to see how I can make it better. I can't.

I'm hoping someone will point me to maybe another EQ folder somewhere in settings I wasn't aware of.

Here's what it looks/sounds like to me:
1. Front seats get great sound all around from low bass to clean highs.
2. Rear seats get jack ****. It seems like front speakers are amplified while rears are not. Rear speakers do work, they move air and produce dull sound but it's completely lifeless, no impact, no bass. Like they aren't even there.
3. Front/Rear adjuster is set to middle. When moved to Rear it barely increases rear volume, but significantly decreases volume on the front.

Can anyone explain (or even point to that info in manual) exactly what "AUTOMATIC SOUND LEVELIZER on/off" and "SURROUND on/off" does? When and why would I prefer to have them on or off ? Is there info that explains what it does on a technical level?

I have the 15 speakers one Levinson. And I think the speakers are set up like surround sound system at home. So the front speakers do the singing, the rest are sound, music and surround. You may want to turn of the surround option in the car to see if it makes any different.

I adjusted the balance a few notches to the back and that improved things.

I found adjusting my ML radios balance to the rear and then increasing the volume works best for me.
