To all the people here trying to justify that the sound of the 4RX is decent (standard or ML), just come to reality...it's plain awful. Even my wife said a couple of days ago that it was terrible, and that is from someone who has no sense of good audio. Just plain sad. It can be good because her '18 XC90 B&W sounds amazing and is bigger than my 4RX.

Awful???? Your system is defective?
My ear can hear up to 22 KHz (which is damn good) and I find the sound very good! And the ML system is just a bit crisper, but not enough to justify the money.
And to me a good system is when you get no distortion when the volume is high. Which I did not detect up to a level I consider tolerable for long period listening.

To each their own on the interior, although the XC90 is about superior in every aspect to my 450h except maintenance. I'm talking about the stereo system...yes, it's awful to the point that Lexus should embarrassed to call it a ML system.
On another note, it's a vehicle and you're not going to get audiophile levels of sound. We just enjoy ours for what it is, and do not expect much more.

Thanks for posting this - first I’ve heard about it. This is bad - very bad. Nearly all automotive infotainment systems will fall under Samsung. I like their products, but this is bad for USA companies that fall under the Harmon electrics families.
It looks like lot of folks think if a system has lot of earth shaking woomphs(sufb woofer), it is good. Low frequency does not define good music, it is by mid and high frequency.
When I got Audi SQ5 with B&O system, wife noticed it compared to the ML system on the RX-450h. If we want to listen to serious music we have a dedicated system at home. Just 2 channel stereo with a small sub woofer. For other multimedia needs we have 9.2 surround sound HTPC with 60" display.

I wasn't happy with the standard audio on my 2010 RX 350, so I got the ML system on the 2018 RX.
The ML system doesn't do much for me except when the car is sitting still. At highway speeds, the better
audio is only apparent with the volume turned up.
However, it is better than the standard system on my 2010 for all conditions.
Has anyone found a solution for an android phone to be recognized (Note 8) when plugged into USB port? I want to listen to audio from my phone via USB for better quality. Ideas?

I have Note 8 as well and would like to know too. Bluetooth Audio on the RX with my phone is still pretty good to me though.

Why not just get a cheap flash drive? If you're referring to streaming, Bluetooth would not be the weak link.

Bluetooth is the weak link with default SBC codec and subpar bandwidth. You can change the codec and all BT options in the Developer Mode on your Android phone, but I don't think RX's Bluetooth recognizes anything else. Unless the RX can read lossless, even a super expensive flash drive will still contain crappy mp3 at 192-320kbps of noise :P Granted, most people don't care, but I do.
I want to achieve an eargasm with the ML system, otherwise what's the point for opting in for it?
