In a hybrid, the actual use of your ICE is roughly 50% so the manufacturer's recommended oil change every 10k is about right with synthetic oil.

I change oil in our cars at 5K or every 6 months, and it’s usually changed at the 6 month mark, regardless of mileage. With GDI cars it’s good insurance, though the Lexus IS GDI and port injection.

Default Oil change options(?)

I booked my 2nd oil change online today for my 2017 Fsport RX350 (1st oil change was complementary, and nothing was mentioned then), and the dealer menu gave some options that reads something like:
1- Local exc oil cooler
2- Local oil cooler
3- OE exc oil cooler
4- OE oil cooler
The above options were listed only for the RX and not for my ES350
Has anyone been asked to select any oil change options for the RX?
Thanks.

I've had numerous oil changes on our 2017 RX and never heard of this. Did you buy the 2017 new and this is only your second change??

Yes. I bought the RX new and this is my 2nd oil change. I owned the an RX3 and there was no such option.
It could be something the dealer came up with themselves.... I was wondering if it is an Fsport thing. Guess I will find out talking to the service adviser.

Unlikely it has anything to do with the FSport trim. Same engine. I have an ES FSport as well and never saw this.

Have no idea what that means. An oil change is an oil change. I have learned over the years, anytime a service dept gives you "options", automatically say NO and you'll be good to go.

Yes. I am leaning toward what you said above.
It was also a bit curious that an oil change for the RX is quoted at ~$102 and an oil change for the ES350 is quoted at $109. I have both cars and thus notice the difference.

Ask them. Same engine so you would think same cost. But $7 diff so who cares. I have an ES as well but never compared the cost to the RX change. I know its never materially different.

No idea what the four options are. Just ask for full synthetic oil and oil filter change, should be around $80-160 at Lexus dealerships.

Around $40-60 for DIY oil change. Assuming you're already have the tools.

Once the free stuff stops I take mine to a local who specializes in Lexus/Toyota and charges $60.00 for Mobile 1. I change the ICE oil every 10000 miles or at least once a year. Rarely does my wife's car get 5000 a year, but I still get it changed. Tires are rotated every 5000 for free at a tire shop. I only go to dealers for warranty work.

It cost me $32 ($26 for Mobile 1 at Walmart and $6 for the Toyota filters on Amazon) and 15 minutes of my time to change the oil. It would take me longer to drive to the dealer much less the waiting time there. Because it is so cheap, I change my oil at 7500 miles or so.

Yes, I also used to change my own oil and then one day I did the math on the savings.
30 years of oil changes done by someone else = $60*30 years =$1800
30 years of oil changes done by me = $30*30 = $900
I would save $900 over 30 years. Think I will watch paint dry instead. However, there is the benefit of looking the car over when doing the oil change myself that I kind of miss now.
