REALLY? Will this cause BLUETOOTH to start searching again??

EDIT: Son of a Gun! That works! Great tip! Thank you so much!

If wife happens to get into her car, nearby in the two car garage, and start the engine, the call will jump to her car, since I have my phone paired with both cars (I drive her car sometimes). At that point the only way to pull the call back is to bring the call back to the phone (not my car's bluetooth). I have to be careful when taking to my mistress
The solution is pretty simple - Lexus needs to implement a device priority like other makes have where you designate a Primary device. The registration process should ask if you want this device to be the primary device. The vehicle will always search for that device first and only connect to others if it cannot find the primary. By default I believe Toyota / Lexus will always prefer the last device connected...at least, it did on my 2013Rxh.

This wouldn't help me much, as wife often fails to have her phone or fails to have it ion or fails to have her Bluetooth on. So my mistress, reading me love poems, will still get pulled to wife's car, as the "first available" device. Apple needs to update iPhone software to prevent existing Bluetooth calls from being pulled away.

How do I love thee? Let me count thy ways

The 2016 RX does offer device priority.

Hey offroad200,

Thank you again for this fabulous tip. Who knew? It even works on my 2014 Corolla! This is pretty much EXACTLY what I was looking for. I don't know how you knew this, but thank you for figuring it out and sharing!

YOWZA! I just tried it on my new Rxh and it is indeed there. I just got my new vehicle last week and haven't been thru all the menus yet. Thanks!

Update: the "reboot the radio" thing is great. That being said, I noticed today that my Corolla "catches" the phone even if Bluetooth isn't switched on until
Long after the radio is started. You'd think they'd carry that convenient feature over to Lexus

BTW, you can't set priority until you add a 2nd phone. It would be nice if the process asked you each time you add a phone if that one should be the primary.

Default Bluetooth Won't Grab My Phone

I admit that I posted about this a while back. But now that more 4th gen Rx vehicles are on the road, I thought it would be worth a second try, Despite what people claim, my old iPhone 6 Plus and now iPhone 7 Plus experience increased battery drain when I leave the Bluetooth on. So I don't. Often I'll be driving and want to make a Bluetooth call. In my son's 2014 Corolla and in my wife's old 2015 RX, the vehicle would "grab" the newly-turned-on Bluetooth. The new RX does not. WHAT AM I MISSING? Someone here DID teach me how to reboot the car radio, which then grabs Bluetooth. So that's a halfway improvement, thank you. But how can it be that the latest/greatest in Toyota technology won't "grab" Bluetooth but a 2014 and prior gen RX will? What am I missing? And why?

You have to go into Settings on your iPhone and then Bluetooth. Then find the Device listed as Lexus RX and press that link to connect it.

No. That's not what I'm talking about. This is after you've already done that. It's about the vehicle passively grabbing a Bluetooth device.

Now I understand. My 4RX does the same thing sporadically. I believe the Lexus Enform software was never fully tested before it was put into production. I had the same problem on my 2013 RX along with other phone issues. After owning Lexus cars since 1993 this may be my last Lexus if they can't get simple software issues like this corrected along with the transmission shifting issue. It seems like the quality control isn't as good anymore.

You can set up priority under Bluetooth settings. Over there you assign property in selecting the phones.

Default Bluetooth Thread

My Bluetooth thread keeps getting locked out or moved. Yet I can't find where it's moved. Can someone please tell me what's going on? I'd like to have a dedicated thread so maybe someone who sees it can explain why the 2017 Bluetooth "catchs" the signal great while the 2016 requires Bluetooth to be on before starting the engine.

EDIT: Here is my updated 2017 post to my prior old thread! Anyway, I traded my 2016 RX for a '17 and the problem is solved! I wonder if there was a software problem with my old car itself or across the board with that model year? And if there was an update fix? It's really not my problem any more, but worth nothing here for your 2016 owners. And it would be nice, just for curiosity's sake, to know what's going on.
