Drive Start Control malfunction
Our cars have a battery indicator light, but it doesn't tell you if the battery is low. The electronics just start behaving abnormally.
I just got it tested at AutoZone and was told the battery is bad but holds a perfect charge. The battery is apparently the original battery from 4/16 but still has a 84 month warranty🤷♂️ Should I call Lexus and see if we could get a battery replacement?
I had the battery replaced in my 2015 at 47 months in from delivery. Covered under warranty and was given a further pro rated 4 year warranty on top of that. New owner will be using that, I presume. SO if you don't ask, you wont get. Give it a shot at least.
Just called in Lexus, the 84 month prorated warranty replacement is honestly not worth it. Anyone have any battery recommendations? Hopefully it'll solve the drive start issue since we have 5k miles till warranty is gone😢
The expected life of the Standard Lexus battery is between 3 & 5 years and is normally covered in the initial bumper to bumper warranty.
One of the previous two owners (dealership car and a older couple) changed out the original battery and got a oem Lexus replacement with the 84 month warranty. It's a prorated warranty so it's not really worth it. 100% off replacement if inside 4 yr 50k warranty, 50% off replacement if you're 0-2 months out, and 25% off from there on or something on the lines of that.
Press brake; push button, get weird engine noise and this message: "A malfunction in the Drive-Start Control System has been detected. Do not rely on this syste. Contact your Lexus dealer .... immediately"
What's going on here? Thanks.

2017 RX 350 with 74k miles. Just had battery replaced last week. Now, when starting, battery didn't sound happy, and I get this damn code, of course on a Sunday. I live alone with no other car, and the dealership is 40 minutes away. Dare I drive to do errands or just have it towed now? Of course, due to personnel issues, my dealership is not offering valet service....... and no loaners!
