Tell me this is not as good as it gets!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are actually one of the luckier ones. The RX-350 loaners I’ve had (numerous), all had less than 20,000 miles & jump shifted, droned & hesitated pretty bad. All of them were enough to make me very thankful for my CVT in my 450h. My Acura had 3 transmissions & wasn’t anywhere near as annoying as these Lexus transmissions. I would have kept the Acura for at least 200,000 if not for needing a new tranny every 30-40,000 miles.Originally Posted by WingDenny
I bought a 2017 RX 350 on March 12, 2021 with 49,000 miles on it. I began to experience the shifting problems/hesitation about 2 weeks into it. I took it to Lexus of Akron/Canton (OH) and they installed the TSB0032-19 and it seems to be about the same. It is intermittent based upon driving conditions and throttle usage. I ran the AC today for one of the first times, went to climb a small incline and felt NO POWER probably around the 4th gear!!!! I was also getting a "droning" noise and they applied TSB0003-16 to help "reduce" (not eliminate) the noise. It now seems to occur for a longer period of time while bringing the vehicle up to speed!!!!!!!!Tell me this is not as good as it gets!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I learned to feather the throttle pretty good at low speeds to basically forget about the lack of smoothness. Still, I can't believe this transmission made it to a production vehicle let alone a Lexus. When I hop into our 2nd gen RX I'm always surprised how much better the transmission is.

I fully agree with the "feathering" technique but we should not have to focus on how a vehicle shifts each time we drive it. I sent a brief but detailed email to the service manager and the service writer about the FIX not doing much. They will pow wow when the service manager returns on Monday from a death in the family. I hope they have some better ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another strange thing now that I remember: when I first presented the vehicle to the service writer at Lexus of Akron/Canton (OH), I told him the RX350 was assembled in Ontario, Canada. He told me that they can not honor the warranty if that is the case!!!??? I said WHAT!!!! After him further checking into it, he said that would not be an issue. Does anyone have any information on RX350 assembled in Ontario as compared to those assembled State side???? Is there a difference of TSBs that should be applied?? Also, they never affixed the proper label to the underside of the hood indicating that the service bullet fix was done, date, location, etc which I questioned in my email that WAS IN ACTUALLY DONE, DONE RIGHT, OR is this as good as it gets!!!!!!!!!

By the way, I am drive in normal mode. Do you guys have the same feel about the transmission shifting?
Thanks.
Yes, I have the same issue with my 2016 RX. The acceleration and shifting at startup and low gears is annoying to say the least. I got the TSB done and it helped a bit, but it's still a shame how this vehicle shifts for a Lexus.Originally Posted by sz8
So, I have been driving the 2017 RX (base model) for a month now. Compared with my 2013 model, I found the acceleration of my 2017 model is not as smooth. It is especially true when starting moving from still. I can feel the transmission shift. Not too harsh but can be felt. Also, in the high way, if I push gas hard at 50 mph, it hesitates a bit before speeding up (transmission downshift?)..By the way, I am drive in normal mode. Do you guys have the same feel about the transmission shifting?
Thanks.

The RX is only manufactured in Canada (most North American delivered cars are from there) or Japan.Originally Posted by WingDenny

If they don't know warranty details for the RX go to another dealer, that one is cr**.
There have been a few instances on here where the TSB hasn't worked because the dealer didn't do the last piece of the TSB, that is disconnect the power to actually install the update. Just like your computer has to do sometimes, a restart to install.

I did read about disconnecting the battery in an earlier version of the TSB. IF they had done that, I would have lost my radio settings and some other settings?? I question as to whether it was even attempted.

I think they actually pull a fuse for the ECU so it won't affect other settings.Originally Posted by WingDenny

Like I said though they may not have done that. Most others on here who have had the TSB done like the result, the few who didn't could be like you and haven't had it installed correctly.

This is good news. I just wish they included the RX in the lawsuit. There is just no excuse for Lexus/Toyota to mess up on the shifting like they've done on these transmissions. Does the RX use the same transmission listed in the lawsuit?Originally Posted by WingDenny

I dunno -- you have to show damages to win a lawsuit. What are the damages?Originally Posted by WingDenny

The RX350 "problem" is only evident for some drivers in some situations. Like I said before drive gently on level areas and it's fine, driver harder OR in hilly, slow turn situations and the problem is more noticeable. And it's by design in that it's to get a good fuel economy figure. If you're not happy with it the TSB, if completed correctly, will generally solve the problem for most people going by comments on here.
A lawsuit wouldn't get off the ground for something that's not as "nice to drive" as it could be.

As per service bulletin, I had the exhaust center pipe replaced because of the loud "droning" noise when the vehicle shifted in lower gears. It now sounds somewhat loud all of the time!!!! I also had service bulletin0032-19 for "bucking and surge" or hesitation but believe it has done NOTHING!!!!!!!! I was told secretly by the dealership service writer that ALL of the RX 350s have a hesitation problem?? Was at a July Christmas party and another guest has a 2017 like mine and I asked her. She immediately brought her husband over and said, "see, I am not nuts, I told you the suv does not shift right". She mainly drives the vehicle. Very disappointed in this vehicle after having a 2011 for 7 years, I want it back!!!

Good afternoon dear teammates. I live in Russia, the city of Surgut, which is located in Siberia, where oil and gas are produced. On July 27, I bought a new 4x350. I was pleased with the car, but not so long ago I surprised the automatic transmission, downshift with a strong push. As far as I understand, these symptoms are present in the earlier years of 4px as well. A Lexus dealer brought me a car from Japan.

Took our 2017 RX 350 back to the Lexus dealership after previously having 2 service bulletins done to address the "shifting" hesitation and the drone noise in the low gears around the 3rd and 4th.They confirmed that ALL of the 2016-2021 RX350 models have the same "issue" and as stated above some drivers notice it while others do not. It all depends of how the driver accelerates and what the driving conditions are (start from a dead stop, ascending a grade, rounding a corner and then accelerating, etc.). I have driven the 2011 RX 350 for years without any such issue but it is a 6 speed as compared to this 8 speed. I was told the other day by the dealership master mechanic and garage supervisor that Lexus is well aware of the "concern" and have noticed the ES does not perform the same way and there is some discussion in future builds to use the ES transmission in the RX 350s. He encouraged me to contact Lexus corporation, as I have already done and been assigned a case number, to further voice my displeasure with the driving experience. He will channel additional data from his position up through the channel as well.

There may or may not be any other examples of your "strong push" downshift on this forum -- I don't remember hearing about it.Originally Posted by Dima009
