It won't ever default to SPORT due to the drag on MPG and CAFE ratings.

Yes I know, but apparently the other poster has found a way to have ECO behave like sport by saving the sport settings, if I understood him right, this is what I don't get.

I’ve observed very little mpg difference in highway driving between Sport mode & Normal mode. Sport does tighten up the steering to where it really should be.

I haven't observed much difference between Sport+ and Eco either. Only when i push a car a bit.

I've written off ECO or as I call it the masochistic setting, but I've noticed a big difference between normal & sport, the latter is far more responsive to accelerator input.

Question 2019 RX 350 shifting issues

My RX cant seem to make up its mind what gear it needs to be in. Most of the time it feels like it is in to high of a gear and wants to lag. And it will run away down hill in cruise control then try to catch itself by downshifting. Anybody else experiencing this?

Try SPORT mode where it will be less inclined to hold onto high gears.

Thats what the tech told me. I am disappointed with it. Taking it to dealer Tuesday.

This is the BANE of most "intelligent" transmissions, they want to understand what you mean instead of just act upon the input.

More than a year ago I had my dealer updated the ECU in the hope of improving the surge hesitation issue but it didn't go completely away. From time to time I do experience it in normal driving mode. So last week I had a chance to take it in for the fuel pump recall(btw, no gas smell afterward so they did a good job) replacement. I told the service advisor about the issue and they updated my ECU to a newer version. So far I see improvement. We'll see how it goes in near future.

I just went in to get some work done and told them about the hesitation issue. They updated the firmware (TSB l-sb-0032-19 for reference) and after wards I filled it up with premium gas. It seems to be doing okay so far although I haven't put in a lot of miles yet. There's still some hesitation when flooring but it's much more tolerable than having the car jerk forward and back.

On another note, does anyone else notice when sitting in the back row that you feel sensitive to the acceleration/braking? I sat in the backseat while my dad drove and felt like I was getting pushed hard when accelerating and pulled during brakes. He doesn't have a heavy foot either. It just doesn't feel like a smooth ride sitting in the back.

For reference, I have a 2017 rx f sport. I wish it drove more like the 2020 es loaner I had. Such a smooth ride with no hesitation in the acceleration - exactly what I would expect for a lexus.

ES has different issues. The trans is very jerky, much worse than the RX IMO but no hesitation.
