Default Problem: Driver side mirror making clunking noise in Reverse mode

When I place the car in reverse and the side mirrors transition downwards, the driver side mirror makes clunking noises as it transitions. It makes about 3 to 4 clunking sounds each time before it settles out into the specified position. It's intermittent and doesn't happen every time I drop it into reverse. The passenger side mirror is completely fine and free of any noises.

My car only has 140 miles. Is anyone else experiencing this? I plan on taking it into the dealership later today but I wanted to get some thoughts from you in the meantime.

Both of mine are working fine. If it were me I would have Lexus take a look at it at the 5K.

Sounds like the gears are misaligned. Best to have the dealer work on it.

Maybe there is some debris trapped in?

It's possible whoever prepped your car for delivery might have banged or hit the mirror too hard damaging the tilt-down mechanism or dislodging the tracks. I'm sure your dealer will resolve this without fuss.

Reversing the car will activate mirrors to tilt down. When adjusted incorrectly will cause a popping noise because it has reach its maximun range of travel and wants to keep moving. Someone previously might have adjusted the mirror to tilt too far thus causing this problem. Here is my previous post about how to adjust the mirror tilt function:

I just found out that you can adjust how far down the mirrors tilts. When I first bought my car from the dealership I noticed that the backup mirror only tilts very little. I played around a little bit and found out it can be adjusted independently to the up position when in drive.

Adjust this setting at your own risk. I am not responsible for any accidents or damages to your vehicle if dont incorrectly. This is meant for reference only.

1. First park your car in a level road.
2. Put the car in park.
3. Adjust both side mirrors to your personal preference allowing view of the road and as much of the blindspot as possible.
4. While holding the brake pedal put the car into reverse, make sure not to release the brakes until finished adjusting.
5. When you put the car into reverse the mirrors will tilt down.
6. While mirrors are tilted down proceed to adjust the mirror to desired tilt position.
7. Do the same thing to the other side mirror.
8. Put the car into park and check to see if everything is adjusted correctly.
9. Save these settings into the seat memory button.
10. You are now finished!
Depending how much you have adjusted now you can parallel park and see the curb with your side mirror!
