Is that one in the background of the pic you posted in the other thread?

I was hoping for the Matador Red when I bought my 2103 RX450h but they replaced the color in that MY with the much darker Claret Mica - a color that hasn't taken off much around here. I ended up with Stargazer Black.

The one in the pic you posted looks like it could be a new shade that's neither of those. I'd have to see it from some more angles or in person to get a good feel for it.

It could be infrared or even riviera red although it looks too dark to be riviera. I'm going with infrared

 

It looks nice but Lexus is trying a little too hard. I wouldn't buy it honestly.

 

If they werent trying hard they wouldnt be anywhere though. Sales have gone through the roof so its obviously working.

 

I was really considering getting it in red, as I wanted to switch from my current white (quartz) color (which I LOVE, but change is good .

Red color on RX will be the same as currently used on NX (it's called Red Mica Crystal Shine in Japan…*could be different name in other places, but the color itself is the same for both models anyway)

So anyways… I went to a nearby dealership to check the red NX (after all 4RX is just a bigger NX, right? . I wanted to like the color, but I left completely unimpressed. The color is just so plain, lacking any depth. It's just, well…*red color. Nothing to it at all - no punch, no depths, no spartkes, no originality. It's OK to have red like that in normal Toyotas, but we're talking Lexus here…

I loved RC-only red color, btw. I would've most likely went with that red if they had it available for NX/RX, but unfortunately that's, as said, RC-only.

I decided to go with Sonic Quartz. And unfortunately, mainly due to it being the least "bad" color out of them all. I think Lexus really blew it this time with exterior color variations
I saw NX in (and all these colors - and a few more- are coming from NX to 4RX): black, the other black, blue, metallic gray or whatever it's called, sports' white - which really was hardly distinguishable from Sonic Quartz parked nearby. Nothing really clicked with me. And I still remember the "ohhhh!" moment when I first saw the Quartz White for the first time. Nothing like that this time.

Oh well…*enough ranting All said, I think Sonic Quartz is a really good color (just not perfect, like Quartz White was , so I'll go with it. FWIW

 

The red you have in Japan is different than the red we have in the US then. In the US the NX comes in Matador Red Mica which is not flat.

 

It does look good on photo somehow (and in NX catalog as well), but I just checked and it's the same color code I've seen - 3R1 - just different name for the US.

Checked and completely surprised this being a three stage color! Wow! Who stole two stages from the car I've seen?? Again, it didn't look deep nor rich (in either meaning) at all to me… huh.

Seeing it alongside red RC just added insult to injury..

 

I've seen matador red in person many times, its not a new color. I just don't see where you're coming from at all. To me its a very deep, rich red. Infrared is great too, its brighter and bolder.

 

That's the color I wish my 2015 RX 350 was, or the previously offered Matador Red. I settled for Claret Mica, but everytime I see a metallic red vehicle I wish my RX was that color. Mazda and Ford do metallic red especially well.

 

Yeah, if Matador Red had been available on the '13 RX when we bought ours, we would have purchased it. I love the color.

 

To each his own. I have the 2015 RX in Claret Mica. I LOVE my color. If it had come in the Matador Red, quite frankly I would have opted for a different color. Matador is too bright for my tastes. The Claret Mica is a deep rich burgundy which I find very elegant as opposed to a bright red.

I have a list of nine colors that will be available on the 2016 RX. That is Matador Red in the photo. The other colors are: Eminent White, Nebula Gray, Silver Lining, Obsidian, Caviar, Satin Cashmere, Amber, Nightfall Mica. I like the Silver but that Matador Red looks great. Not sure which to choose.
