Just tried to install new Liftgate struts on a 2016 RX350 base model. Disassembly was a breeze, but when I tried to install the new struts they just would not fit. Gate was fully opened with both struts off, but the ball joints was about 3/4" too long. What could I be missing?

You have to remove both before installing one. Once both are removed you can open the liftgate a few more inches to fit in the new strut.
The new struts come extended more than the normal open position allows, removing both will allow you to lift/open it the remaining bit.
Once cycled, the new strut will open to the same position as the old one, they are just shipped at max extension.
