Experience with dealership 10k oil changes
I purchased my 2017 v6 IS300 with 58,000 miles on the clock and incomplete service history. I started with an oil change 1,000 miles after the initial drive home, used Mobil1 at the time, 2000 miles later I started using Valvoline Restore and protect, 3000 miles later I again used Valvoline Restore and Protect, 4000 miles later again Restore and Protect. Sitting at 71,500 miles on the way to 5000 mile oil change intervals and continue with Restore and Protect. Engine looks spotless inside from what I can see.
I did the 60,000 mile service right away, been driving the car 8 months 100% reliable. Love it.
I agree, when the amsoil fan boys come running I just ignore them
. Its like a little annoying cult with their copy and paste posts. Sure, its probably the best oil on the market but I can change my own oil 3 times over with shorter run intervals for the same cost and have a cleaner engine with oil that has better lubricating properties than the fan boy who leaves the oil for 20k and is bragging about going 20k miles while paying 15-20 dollars a quart for "the best oil, amsoil". Project farm did the oil test and amsoil was marginally better.
My oil change takes me 20 minutes so its not really a bother for me. I think the 10k intervals might be ok might not i dont really know but as you said the quality of the oil when going 10k does matter. The oil needs to have a decent amount of detergents and additives for sure. I think I got lucky since my rx isnt burning any oil even at the end of the 10k interval with cheap bulk dealership oil but for me at least i'll do more frequent oil changes since lower quality oils were used. At least till I clear up some engine sludge and then go back to 5k-7500 intervals.

Valvoline recommends at least 4 full interval oil changes to clean an engine. I plan to continue using Restore and Protect on all my vehicles to prevent carbon build on piston rings as the engines age.
It's not a debate, it's chemistry and what you can get away with calling it. Regular Mobil 1 oil is not a true synthetic anymore. Extended Performance is their true synthetic oil. I think Porsche uses it too, but that still does not change the True chemistry. This is normally shocking to most but a Fact.
Also on the 2GR motor. I would not be waiting on 10k to change the oil ever, no matter what oil you use. Neither would I skip on the Coolant changes with Head gasket possible leaks due to acidy coolant. Need only to look at the older IS350, GS350, RX350, and Toyota 2GR's to see the too many of the 10k oil changed motors burning oil past 110k, with 10k oil changes. If, you plan to keep it up at that mileage.

Just saying....
Great advice if you are planning on keeping your Lexus more than 3-5 years.
