Can anyone relate to a loud sound that occurs when my lady's Rx350 2016 Lexus goes into reverse after sitting for a while. The sound is loud but hard to describe. It sounds off throughout the car but initially is coming from the rear area. It doesn't make the sound going in drive. Only when the car has been stationary in park for maybe two hours or more with the engine off. But once it is cranked and put in reverse, it would make a loud sound coming from the rear wheels then shortly after reversing it would stop. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough. If anyone can relate to this loud sound only when reversing please feel free to be informative.
Some easy things you can try that might help narrow things down: As soon as you hear the noise push down firmly on the brakes and see if the noise changes. While going in reverse and hearing the noise, shift to neutral and coast to see if anything changes. Have someone stand outside "near the rear" (not behind) of the car to see if they can hear where the sound is coming from.
A typical noise when backing after car sitting is brake noise caused by minor rust build up on rotors. Mine does this all of the time and goes away after the initial back up.
Is your car AWD? If not, try jacking one, or both, of your rear wheels off the ground, and put the car in Reverse with the ignition on ,engine off. Try rotating the wheel(s) backwards by hand and listen for any noise while rotating. If there is noise, you may have worn out rear brake pads, and the wear tabs are scraping the rotor. If you CAN NOT rotate either of the rear wheels by hand, then you probably have issues with the electric Parking Brake.

I'm experiencing the same noise with my 2020 Rx 350. Were you able to determine the cause of the sound?

if it is your brakes, your sensors should be notifying you in the dash. My ‘98 LS400 gave me a message as SOON as they were at that point. If you have your brakes done and you don’t have Lexus do it, remember that the brake sensors HAVE TO be replaced EVERY TIME you ever replace your brakes. If you don’t, you’ll have a “brake wear” light on until you do. Lexus brakes aren’t like “most” where they just get put back in place and they’re good to go. Once they’ve gone off, they’re done. I hope you find the sounds and it’s nothing major! Let us know what it turns out to be!!

There is no such thing as brake pad sensors for our vehicle. European vehicle have them but not for our RX350.
