Bottom cushion tore along the perforations. Asked the dealer for repair options and the quote was higher than getting an eBay replacement leather, plus the repair would’ve closed up the perforations and not looked good anymore. Priced out original leather vs eBay and went with the budget friendly option as this isn’t my vehicle.
A few observations on quality of the eBay kit. The leather texture is rougher, the perforated middle section has wider spaced holes and is a shade closer to beige than gray. The carpeted section that covers the right and back sides is beige instead of gray. The inner structure that attaches to the hog rings is much cheaper looking than what Lexus designed. For example, the strips that attach to the foam cushion are made out of cardboard instead of wire! You also have to transfer the heating pad which comes included with the Lexus leather. In addition, I had to transfer the back wire holsters that were sown into the original part - annoying to do. However there is a large price difference, $160 for eBay vs $700 for Lexus.
The leather is terrible in these vehicles. I recently rode in a friend's 2022 Toyota Avalon Limited (one of the last ones made) and the leather seats were of a much higher quality than in our vehicles. It was about as nice as BMW's mid grade leather. Sturdy feeling, apparently well designed, and very comfortable. It is the type of leather the RX should have had!
^^ Yep, the leather quality in my 24-year-old 1999 Ram 1500 pickup puts the leather in my wife's 2015 RX350 to shame, and my Ram's interior takes much more of a beating than her RX350 interior ever does. Truly a shabby and inexcusable choice by Lexus.
Hi,
the replacement looks great. How did you remove the seat Bottom? Did you have to remove the entire seat or can you remove just the bottom part?
TIA
Bob
You have to remove the entire seat to get the bottom cushion out of the frame. There is various screws, clips, and wires that are along the bottom of the seat that need to be removed to get the cushion out. Also the plastic trim needs to be removed.
This video is pretty good at showing the detailed steps.
