Default Vvti oil line replacement on 3rd gen?

Hi everyone, I recently had my rubber oil cooler lines underneath the vehicle changed on my 2010 rx350 and replaced with metal ones. I was reading about previous generations having a vvti line near the top of the engine that's also rubber and could spontaneously fail which should be replaced. Does the 2010 and newer rx350 already have metal vvti lines? Thanks

If your car came with the rubber oil cooler lines, your VVT-i bank 1 line probably is too. Take plastic covers off and peek down with a flashlight, you'll quickly see if there's a piece of rubber there or metal. You can see where it connects to the top of the rear valve cover, follow it near where it bolts to the head and you'll see the start of rubber if it is.

I don't know if thats true....I think for the 3RX, its the new metal line. I have a 2011 and had rubber cooler lines but should not have rubber vvt lines (I haven't checked).

I'm not sure if Toyota staggered the lines or not, there was an "updated" VVT-i bank 1 hose they offered around that time but I wouldn't trust it and go straight to metal. Maybe models made in Japan may have got this later, as many of the '10 and '11s are made in Japan. My '14 by then had the metal oil cooler line in addition to the VVT-i line.

The bottom line is, just check as it is simple and offers peace of mind. Either that or maybe enter your VIN into Lexus and they may be able to answer that, but I'd still rather physically check.

Edit:

Me swapping the rubber line to metal on my 2008 RX350, hopefully this makes the visual process more simple. The part on the new line where there is a plastic cover is the top side that mounts to the valve cover

Update on this, looked under the hood and I appear to have metal lines. Didn't have to take any covers off so hopefully I'm looking in the right location. Looks a little rusty but I didn't see any rubber following the line down as far as I could see

>>> I appear to have metal lines

Yes, you do have all metal bank 1 VVTi oil line. Here is a pic like yours of the the bank 1 VVTi line, with the rubber part, and it is clearly visible:

This pic shows your bank 2 (front bank) which all have a solid steel line, which would be on the passenger side as shown...Remove the cover & have a look at bank1 (rear bank) & follow the steel line to see if its spiced w/ a rubber hose.

No, it is bank 1, see the side motor mount by the 2GR mark, bank 1 is behind it, pretty sure?

I hope so, there were basically no covers behind that and I don't think there was any more of the engine behind, just a little space before the firewall
