Why does Lexus have in the maintenance schedule a Brake Fluid Change at 30,000 miles... while the Toyota Highlander does not? They use the same brake components.

Why is Lexus stricter than Toyota on this? This really is the only difference in the maintenance schedules between the 2 vehicles.

There are tons and tons of maintenance recommendations from several different manufacturers which have caused never ending debates amongst forum users. Plus, maintenance schedules vary quite drastically from market to market with the exact same car.

Specifically why Lexus did that? Who knows. But I can assure you the intentions were not good. People say to change your brake fluid every 30K miles, I just get it done whenever im in for a full brake job. I got to 100k miles on the original brakes with the Mazda 6. Always getting people changing their brakes when the pads and rotors still have plenty of life left.

I religiously purge the brake fluid every 30k.I have never experienced brake issues with vehicle in my care. If you dont change it, the fluid picks up moisture and the innards can develop rust, spongy brakes, and the fluid near the slaves start getting thick and dirty (this impacts the free flowing return to the master when brakes are released).

Why does Toyota not recommend the fluid change? I have no idea ... could be a printing issue. If I own one, I would call service to make sure, but this fluid is not 'life time'. Even unused portion of fluid in bottle/can should be discarded if they have volume of air between the surface and the cap.
