Default Are 3rd Gen Head units interchangeable?

I've searched. Can't find and answer. Sorry for a duplicate if it exists. I have an early 2010 model with the head unit gremlins. Changes radio and HVAC settings on its own. Many were replaced under warranty. Not this one... I need to buy a replacement head unit but don't know whether the '12+ models will interchange or if I need to find a 2010/11 model year only. If so - is there any way to know when the issue was fixed and whether a salvage yard head unit would be the fixed version?

Thanks in advance!

I would start by calling my local Lexus parts department and let them find the head unit part number for your vehicle and then a 2015 vehicle. If the part numbers match and there are no additional revision numbers, you should be able to go with a later version if necessary.

Call these guys as they are major Lexus recyclers and have access to the Hollander database of what parts fit what other vehicles, which is the heart of the auto recycling business! http://www.rancholexusrecycling.com/

The parts numbers are not the same across years. Just for model year 2010 there are 22 different receiver head unit part numbers. That doesn't mean that they are not interchangeable necessarily. Physically there's no question they will interchange in the dash. I also suspect that the wiring is shared and any unit will send the same signals to the same can bus inputs. But... I have no idea other than to try it it sounds like. Replacing with the same part would kinda defeat the goal of getting a more reliable later production unit.

If you have a 2010, you need a unit from 2010,2011,or 2012. Major differences occurred in 2013 and it would not be Plug and Play. (Although with enough Money anything can work)

Just an FYI - for folks, the answer is yes, a different part number unit from a later RX350 ('11 my) with the same dash configuration was a plug and play swap. It took about 30 minutes to swap the head units. I paid ~$250 for a good condition unit from a salvage yard. Works as expected. Don't forget to remove your CDs before you remove the HU. I don't remember the last time I used a CD, but there were a few in the HU that I had forgotten about.

Hi,
Can you describe the process of HU removal- either with diagrams or even just verbally?
Thanks

You can definitely swap between some years, provided the options are the same or similar (ML, navigation, etc.), however as was said before there were major updates for 2013 and those would be unlikely to be plug and play into 2010-2012's.
