Tire Pressure Sensor issue
Thank you for your enlightened Responses over the years !! Yes, who care about which TPMS sensor has gone bad !! Let the light shine and mask it with BLACK tape until the next tires change !! That's how inconvenient this TPMS gadget has been for the consumers.. Car makers want to make money and this definitely is money make for them !! Thanks Again Friend for your responses !!! Dear jimisbell,
Thank you for your response. The Manufacturers can appeal this government mandate !! However, Money can be made by this complicated design TPMS that the average Joe can NOT do it on his own. Why fight a money making application that makes $$ that puts money in their pockets !!
Thanks Again, EJ Dossary, EE

Two of our four vehicles have TPMS (the two SUVs). I wish none of them did. I have made it a habit to check all fluids and pressures in all of our vehicles every weekend since the late 1970s. I trust my digital tire gauge far more than I trust any vehicle's TPMS and that fact will never change.
Dear RX in NC, We lived in Southern Pines and Indian Trail, NC for over 16 years. We had 2002 Camry and RX300 !! I checked oil levels every gas fill up 1! Tire Pressures are checked every month. However, TPMS, Sensors inside the tires is a bad, bad design idea !! I trust my old tire Air Gauge that I used over the years. Just like yourself, if one trust a an instrument, stick with it !! Thank you Again for your response !! EJ Dossary, EE
Just want to raise my hand and say, the TPMS sensors saved my bacon last summer. Life got busy, and I didn't check my tire pressure for a few months, and the sensor light went on. Checked it with my gear (I have an electronic pressure gauge, and a battery-powered pump), and lo and behold, one of my tires lost a significant amount of pressure. Re-inflated it, and gave the other ones a quick boost to the same reference PSI I take them to, and everything was good again.
So I consider these important for folks that don't religiously check things (life happens). It's an important safety feature for regular everyday folks.

I recently had my tires replaced and had flat lines for pressures immediately following the install,, shop couldn't figure it out, researched and talked with friends in the business,, turns out lexus puts corner specific color coded specific sensors on some cars and they can not be moved, c2198 and all the other associated codes came up, and sure enough, my right front wheel had been placed on the left front and this created a problem. tomorrow we're going to place it back where it belongs and clear codes to see if its that simple, I'f not, we'll do the relearn/reprogram i.d.'s and see what happens..
if you're having tire work done you should ask the shop (incase they don't know) to put your wheels back where they came from to eliminate the potential BS I and so many others have had to chase.

I buy my tires at BJ's wholesale club. I got new michelins in January and immediately started having TPMS issues with no decreased tire pressure. Indicator hasn't gone off since about 3 weeks after I got the new tires put on. So something is happening. I figured old tire sensors. I bought the four Schrader tire sensors since I figured I would prefer to have new sensors for the rest of the time I own this 2009 RX350. Turns out BJ's uses a universal tire sensor (picture attached) they are easily able to switch out with a universal tool. They didn't have one listed for the RX 350 which seems strange. Manager is coming in tomorrow so I'm going to have a
call with him to see if he's able to put in the Shraders. Has anyone else had problems with mechanics installing Shraders tire sensors?
Also, I only ordered four tire sensors. In 15 years I've only had to use a full size spare from the bottom of the RX - and only for 24 hours. And yes I checked the spare and it was fully inflated so I don't think it was causing the sensor issue. But I did have to use that tire prior to getting the new Michelins in January.
To the best of my knowledge the early model SC is the only Lexus that uses color coded sensors and they are not location specific. Just means if your car has blue ones oem you will need to replace them with blue. There are plenty of aftermarket alternatives.
The TPMS warning light is on in my 2010 Lexus RX350. I'm certain the batteries have expired. The tire pressures are fine and I have performed the "reset" procedure but the warning light persists. My question is, "Can the battery(ies) in the be changed to make them operational again?" The price of the parts from Lexus are over $500 per tire. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, the TPMS batteries are integrated into the sensors and typically cannot be replaced.
Do NOT go to a Lexus dealership for TPMS replacement -- the dealerships are ridiculously expensive (i.e. ripping you off big-time). Call around to your local tire shops (such as Discount Tire). You will find much more reasonable TPMS deals there. That may also be the case at Costco if you happen to be a member.
