Codes Clearing by themselves?
I recently had my CE, TRAC and Check AWD System lights come on. During the time the lights were on, the transmission would occasionally shift hard, and at one point it seemed to not want to downshift when coming to a stop and the engine died. I was able to start it right back up and continue driving. Most of the time, the car drove fine.
I had the codes checked and it stated p0793 along with some other power related code.
I had just bought it about a week ago with 116k, and did fill and top off the gas a few days after buying it.
I dropped it off at the dealer that I bought it from and he told me he would have his guy look at it, and said he would take care of it. I dropped it off in the afternoon and he got back to me the next morning. He said the car cleared the codes itself but he was able to look up the codes that came up earlier. He said they check all the connections and it seems to be a fluke thing as everything is normal now.
I have about a 5 mile commute to work so I haven't had a chance to put many miles on, but it seems to drive just fine now. Should I be concerned? Can that kind of stuff just happen? Thanks for any help.
summary: The on board computer keeps collecting data and only after sufficient (as determined by manufacturers) deviations from normal, triggers a CEL. Once triggered it still collects new info and clears out CEL if the values return to normal. Before it triggers a CEL, it keeps a log of pending faults. A reader reports both pending and set faults. IThe on board computer also keeps track of when it was reset and reports "Not ready" when enough data is not present.
